Every sum you work out in Tapewise stays on a tape, like the paper roll of an adding machine, so you can check it later or carry on from it. Unlike paper, the tape stays live: tap any line to fix a typo or change a price, and every line that uses it works itself out again.

A tape you can edit

  • Each sum you finish with = becomes a row on the tape, and the bar under the tape adds them all up.
  • Tap a row to edit it. Rows further down that use its result update at once.
  • Give a result a name, such as rent, and use that name in later rows, as in rent÷3. Or use a row by its number, as in #2+10.
  • Tap a result to see how it was worked out, one step at a time: "10% of 200 = 20".

Exact math, percent the way you expect

Tapewise counts in exact decimals, so 0.1 + 0.2 is 0.3, and 1 ÷ 3 × 3 is 1, not 0.9999999. Percent works like a desk calculator:

You type You get Because
200 + 10% 220 10% of 200 is added
80 − 15% 68 15% of 80 is taken off
50 × 10% 5 10% of 50
15% 0.15 a percent on its own

Money tools

The chips above the keypad open five tools. Each one adds an ordinary row to the tape, with a note saying what it did, so you can edit or reuse it like any other row.

  • Tip & split: the bill, the tip and how many people, then the total and what each person pays.
  • Discount: a price and a discount, and a second discount taken off the reduced price if a sale stacks them.
  • Tax: add tax to a price, or take it out of a price that already includes it.
  • Unit price: two pack sizes and their prices, and which is cheaper per unit and by how much.
  • Currency: convert between about 30 currencies at the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. Tapewise keeps the last rates it downloaded, so conversion works offline.

A tape for everything

  • Keep separate tapes, for a trip, a renovation or this month's bills, and switch between them by tapping the tape's name.
  • Search finds rows on every tape by their sum, name, note or result.
  • Share a tape as plain text or as a receipt image.
  • A home-screen widget shows the open tape's total, with a button for a new line. The New calculation tile in Quick Settings opens Tapewise ready to type.

Tapewise follows your phone's Material You colors and dark theme, and works in portrait and landscape. The app is in English.

Private

Your tapes stay on your phone. There's no account, no ads and no tracking. Tapewise goes online only to download exchange rates for the currency tool. See the Tapewise privacy policy, and Tapewise support for help and answers.
