How to add more variables to block templates ?

Hello,

in past I thought all which is availible in a template will be also availible in included subtemplates, but it seems a diffeent in this smarty version so please can you give me a hint how to add more variables in the block templates ?

By sample: block.category_jump - how can I add more fields from category table to show them in the block ?
