Can't edit cleandex

When i tried to edit cleandex footer.htm it gives error.
Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource:
"/public_html/themes/404.html" in /
/public_html/lib/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1088

I can't edit theme from admin panel why?

Is the directory and files in /themes/cleandex permissions at 777??

remove the .htaccess file from the theme folder, make sure you actually uploaded it all as well, also, maybe you need ot run "update category paths" you never said where it happens or if its universal.

If you don't know how to change file permissions get a copy of the IndexU install guide and follow the instructions. It will show you what you need to do and how to do it.

It is likely a permissions issue.

I use editplus. It is just so easy. I'm giving RapidPHP a try and while it has some nice features, it doesn't seem to be as easy. I like easy.

I'll probably buy RapidPHP cause it does have some nice features. Their toolbars a little overwhelming and the open file with ftp is cumbersome but hey, the world is not perfect.
