Default what is the concept of user administration?

Hi

again with a beginners question.

I figured out that
  1. people can register to add a link.
  2. people can become an editor
  3. there is an adminstrator

Questions:
Can there be more than one admin? How can I create a second admin?

where are users stored? all in idx_users? How is the status handled? by group_id? if so, is admin = 0, link_user = 2, correct so far? are there other id's?

thank you very much

macangelo

Users are stored in idx_users, yes there can be a second admin but there is no easy way to add them. You need to edit a user in the database to make them an admin.

There is no real need to have a second admin for most users. Remember as an admin a user has the ability to delete listings and categories and add any cats and listings that they want. Admins also have the ability to alter the database directly.

There are different group id's, admin, user and non-validated user in idx_admin. Editors are not marked in idx_user, they have their own table.

It would be nice if Indexu allowed to have another type of role for editing outsourcing.

This role could add, edit and possibly delete links but not to be allowed to modify, delete or backup tables or databases. That is, make it fool proof and and hard to steal at same time.

That would be an editor, you can add them in the admin panel. Since editors are typically volunteer they are category based. If you want them to be global you need to add them to each category.

When you have 3,506 categories, that can get kinda hard! LOL Maybe in a future release of IndexU there can be a setting in the admin section that will allow you to make them an Editor of the entire directory?!?!

Perhaps it would be, submit it on the project tools as a suggestion.

If you want to add an editor to every category you could do it through a mysql command. It would be easier, but I don't know the command offhand.
