    Question Vertical spacing between categories

    Hi,

On a site, I use Portaldex template, which is fine, and I tuned it to my needs without any problem, except for one thing I never solved :

on the homepage the vertical spacing between categories is very wide.

If I use temper template, this spacing is narrow and (if I remember well) I found how to modify it using .css files.

    But for portaldex ???

    Has anyone an idea ?

    Thanks
    Gus

It's a lot easier if we can see the issue, what's the URL?

    Smile Vertical spacing (followed)

    Hi Bruce,

Well, it is not a fundamental issue, I would just prefer to reduce a little this spacing, so people can see a larger number of categories at first glance when landing on the homepage (I got a long text atop categories for SEO).

    Here is the URL :
    Maquillage et soins du visage

For vertical spacing with Temper template (thus narrower), you can have a look at this test site :
Loi Scellier : logement, défiscalisation, réduction d'impôts

My suggestion would be to remove sub-categories from being shown on the index page. That will close the vertical gap.

    Smile Alas ...

    Thanks for the idea, but

I just went to the test site ("loi Scellier ..."). This site uses Temper template. There were no subcats on the homepage, so I added one. Result : no change in vertical spacing (you can see it now at http://www.scellier-logement-loi.info

    My opinion is :
if Temper can have a narrow vertical spacing, even with subcats, then it ought to be possible for Portaldex, but how ?

    Regards
    Gus

View the source, and you can see two breaks after the category name and each category opening up with a paragraph statement.

That's what's going to be causing the spacing. But the spacing looks proper if you have category descriptions for each category.

I'm not sure where this data is kept, try looking in category.class.php. It doesn't appear to be in the css.

OK, I already had a look at that and noticed it but could not figure out why only ONE break is generated when you use "Temper".

Alas, I got SEO reasons not to do that.
Besides, it would leave me with the same problem : the category list is too long.

Well, that's just what I wanted to dodge : script modification.
Apparently Temper template developers found a template-based solution, but I see nobody knows how here.

Anyhow, thank you for your replies and the time spent.
At least it has given me an occasion to speak of this issue with other people, which helps thinking about it : now I got new ideas of investigations to be done inside Temper template. If I find an answer, I'll post it here.

    Have a nice day

Colur me confused, but what does adding a category description have to do with the category list being too long? Adding a category description would be better for SEO.

One other place I neglected to tell you to look at is setting.php. My apologies on the brain fart there.
