On client's area when downloading indexu , version 1.4 is showing but the templates are for version 1.3.3 Does it mean that tempates will be upgraded to version 1.4 or it is safe to use tempates 1.3.3 for indexu version 1.4?

Templates needed to be update for 1.3.3 because of new features added. Version 1.4 was mainly a bug fix release. There doesn't appear to be anything in 1.4 that requires the templates to be updatedYou should be fine using 1.3.3 templates on Deluxe 1.4

There should be no template update. You can use 1.3.3
Hi,
Let us be not so specific and encompass all template and IndexU DeLuxe versions in this topic.
So the question is :
I start with IndexU DeLuxe 1.0 + any template 1.0,
I customize the template (labels, styles, titles, meta-keywords, meta-descriptions and so on),
now I plan to upgrade IndexU to 1.n.m,
Do I have to update something in my template ?
I had always guessed that the answer was NO (a template does not have to evolve with the software, the new template versions are just optimized for use with the new software versions, but old template versions do still work).
This seems to work with PortalDir 1.0 (or 1.1, I do not remember) : from IndexU 1.0 up to IndexU version 1.3.1, I had nothing to change in the template.
But I have not upgraded my IndexU since (just because I have to add lines in the .htaccess to take the new friendly tag URLs into account and have little time to test it).
So what is the exact general upgrade rule for templates ?
Thanks
Gus
If new code is needed to be inserted to the template files in order for it to be displayed, then yes, you will need to update your template. An example would be when IndexU added support for reCAPTCHA. In order for the recaptcha turning numbers to be displayed, code needed to be inserted into the templates. If recaptcha was added in 1.3, then templates used in 1.1 and 1.2 would not have this code.
What I do when a new version comes out that needs template upgrades ( must give thanks to Bruceper for showing me this before ), I run a program called WinMerge. Its free and what it will do is compare all the files in your original template, to all the files in the new update template. Then you can easily have the code thats new inserted into your original template.
Hope this helps!![]()

Thinking about this a little more, I might create a Video Tutorial for this. If I can, I'll try to create it within the next day or two and I'll post back here when its done and the link to it.

Well, your (Bruce's) solution is the good one : it is used in parallel development.
But, anyhow, I suppose that new template code is added only for new software features. If you do not upgrade (one way or another) your template, you just won't be able to use these features, but the old ones will keep running smoothly.

WinMerge or other file compare tool should work well. I usually compare old kosmos folder and the new one.
