A listing does have a permalink via the detail page. For example IndexUTemplates.com - A membership site for IndexU themes - new themes added monthly

I understand the title a user adds to a listing relates to the url indexu will create. But what happens to the "permalink" if a user modifys their title listing? For instance one could configure indexu so it offered people free listings that is not nessercarlly oriantated arround the "link" listing phlosphy as indexu does nativley.

I understand what you mean. A link could always be used with the linkid instead then. Such as http://www.indexu.com/detail.php?id=1 If that link was hardcoded then it should not be rewritten and would be permanent. You probably want a seo friendly option and that I can't offer you at the moment. But I'll talk to the programmers about it.
