An interesting lesson learned.

Late last night I was working on moving/combining some categories and forgot to Update Category Path. Created all kinds of problems as I couldn't log in today so I could resolve the issue. When I finally noticed a click on a category produced a 404 it became clear what had happened.

Had to dump database, categories and links from phpMyAdmin. I may not have needed to do this but blew away database, did a clean installwhich enabled me to log in so reloaded database but again couldn't log in. Emptied category and link tables. Uploaded category and link tables via phpMyAdmin, quickly did a Update Category Path and suddenly the clouds parted and things were working except for updating some of my settings.

That is the short version - about 4 hours - my stupid but learned something.

seems strange that it prevented a log in - no error or anything - just re-displayed the log in page.

Not updating categories won't prevent you from logging in, that would have been a seperate issue completely.

If after logging in you just received the log in page again then either
1) Your browser isn't accepting cookies
2) You logged into the main section of IndexU, and not the admin panel. At that point all you have to do is type yoururl.com/admin/ and you would see the admin panel.
