How to display more subcategories on the home page ?

I tried to change in category.class.php "var $number_of_subcats" but nothing happens.

Is it the right file to do it ?

login Administrator Control Panel

then open Template Manager

select Edit Template (your theme)

look for setting.php

in category appearance

$cat_columns = 2;
$max_sub_cat = 0;

change to

$cat_columns = 2;
$max_sub_cat = 5;

or how much you want.
