how big can the category icons be?

I know that is possible to use personalized icons for each category instead of the standard icons.

Questions, How big can they be, 48px, 64px ?

To be bluntly honest, they can be as big as you want.

In fact on one site of mine they are 250px wide (I use logo's for the category icon).

It will also depend on how wide your template is and how many columns you use.

It's not complete yet so it's not live. It's got a huge database that I have to do by hand so it'll take a long time to do.
