Default Few questions for the beginning of usage

How do I set default language and turn-off the box "Choose language" on front-end?

Where boxes "Yahoo Search Engine News" and "SearchEngineWatch.com News" are turned off and change RSS link for listing. I really can't find it.

Database is set to UTF-8 in IndexU. In a name of category letter "č" is visible but in title "Random links" ("translation is "Slučajni linkovi" is not "Sluajni linkovi")

    Thank you

    - You can set your default language in the Admin panel. To turn off the selection of other languages, just remove or comment out the block that is called in the template for language selection.

    - Most of the time, depending on what template your using, you'll find the Search Engine Watch News, and Yahoo News feeds in the index.html file of your theme. You'll also want to look in sidebar1.html and maybe sidebar2.html, again depending on what theme your using.

To change the RSS feed, just change the URL of the RSS feed to what you want. If you want to remove them entirely, I would just comment out or delete where the blocks are bring called in the template

    - Bruce might have to give you insight on the last point

The translation issue can be resolved with the two blog posts below.

    Translation issues? | Nicecoder Blog
IndexU translation issues resolved | Nicecoder Blog

Do not change the language in IndexU away from UTF-8

    Hi,

I needed some time to learn about gettext and check things about my webhosting server.

Gettext is enabled. I have UTF-8.

Characters are OK in text (categories name, description,...) and problem is with headlines of section ("Random links", Yahoo serach,...) and links like Homepage,Refresh links, Search,...

    Tnx

That typically happens when your server doesn't support the LOCALE command. As the two blog posts above mention, change your language directory to add .utf8

The issue is going to be with one of the items on the two blog posts as I have alredy mentioned.

If you want me to look I will, but it's most likely I'll just tell you to fix one of those things above.

Post the URL here and I'll look.

    Hi Bruce,

Sorry to ask so much but I really did all you wrote about solving language problems on blog post.

I used some php code to get information about gettext on a server.
    It says: "GetText Support: enabled"

    I changed "hr_HR" to "hr_HR.utf8"
    Database is UTF8.

I don't know what else can cause problem.

This is a link to web site Zdravljak.com - izvor zdravlja

I don't understand why same characters are OK in some part of site but not on others (titles and links).

I really like IndexU as a directory solution.

    Tnx

One last thing to try on your own if you'd like, try changing it to .UTF8

That actually made a difference for one user. Honestly I don't know why, but it did.

Otherwise everything else looks good. You can send me the FTP and IndexU login to support [at] nicecoder.com and I can also look.

I'm just thinking this could be problem with Poedit.
It seems there is problem only with translation from Poedit.
Any advice on that? I know it is separate software.
    Tnx

You must compile your translation from POedit on the same Operating System as that of your web server. So if your web server is a linux web server, you must use Linux to compile it from POedit.

Are you sure about that? In Poedit there is option to choose how the line will end – Linux, Win or Mac. Secod, that would mean that all users of Windows that have Linux server couldn't use Poedit for translation.

    Yep, I'm sure...

    See this thread http://www.nicecoder.com/community/f...e-indexu-6705/

Here is a snipet from it:

Dody has offered to compile it in Linux for anyone who only has a Windows based system. I'm sure if you e-mail the files to support (at) nicecoder.com Dody will be able to compile it and send it back to you
