Banner system for deluxe

Just another thing to add to the list, an advertisement banner system for deluxe is a must.

Inspiremes mod for 5.4 was well thought out and was a nice feature

Is it not worth using OpenX ( formerly phpAdsNew ). Atleast with that script, you can place banner positions anywhere you want too, and also have the ads spam across all your sites, not just one. Better management and great reporting for advertising clients too

Maybe the plugin could be for an easy way to integrate that script's login information into IndexU or vise versa.

See now that's something I can agree with, integrating a banner script.

Since I've begun using IndexU I have not seen the need for a static banner system because they always suck. They never have enough abilities, features and functions and this is why when people ask for a banner rotator I have always said no.

But now that we have Deluxe and plugins and integrations possibilities this changes the whole picture.

I'll talk with the programmers and see what we can do. My thoughts are that this could not be done until hooks are added everywhere they need to be.

You can go that route with it, which is probably the better route to go, or you could just do a plugin in a similar way you do with vB, phpBB, Wordpress, etc. Mainly just for the client side of it. I'm thinking it might be too hard to completely integrate it even with hooks, due to banner sizes, custom sizes you can make, etc.

What would be extremely useful is having a merged user login so that users of IndexU can use the same username / password as what the client side of OpenX is

yes but IF it's possible, the hooks could be used for a block on the right side, left side, top, middle and bottom of the page. That's only IF it's possible.

The programmers are out of comission tonight, they have no power there due to rolling blackouts for power conservation.

On the other side of things here, does this ad script have such a bad reputation that it has needed to change it's name so many times? First it was phpadsnew, then Openads and now openx. If it were a brick and mortar store it would sound fishy to me.

I actually installed openx prior to posting this thread and found it diffcult.

What i liked about inspremes mod was the user could vist a page that allowed the user to submit either a text baner or image.

Does openx do this? How do you include advertisments in indexu?

I've been out of the OpenX community for some time now, but its my opinion, and would seem that majority of others, that its the best advertisement script out there. I cant speak to why they have changed the name so much, but the last time I used the script the ONLY function it was lacking was a billing module, and they were suppose to address that in the next release.

OpenX is much more cumbersome then Inspireme's banner software. The cumbersome part is how much more it can do. But simplicity has its rewards too

OpenX does allow for an advertising client to upload image banners, as well as submit text banners. You have the ability to charge different rates based upon where the advertisement will be listed, if you wish to charge for the amount of impressions it gets / or the amount of clicks it gets / or a set period of time ( daily, weekly, monthly, etc. ).

A single installation of OpenX can manage all of your sites. So if you have 5 IndexU sites and want to offer the same banner to be displayed on all 5 of your sites, OpenX will do this. You can also restrict a banner from displaying on one of your sites. You have the ability to say I want this banner to be display on sites 1, 3, and 5 only.

You can also have a weekly or monthly e-mail sent to the advertising client with the statistics of their advertising campaign. This really helps to show the client they are getting their money's worth advertising with you, and helps to justify any pricing your charging.

Right now, I'm just using Adsense over all my sites... Which is proving to be a nice source of income for me. The only reason I haven't gotten into OpenX yet is just a time constraint. I'm currently trying to consolidate some of my work in order to give me more time for this like this
