Default Is it worth buying 3.2E ??

Serious question.. just revamping my website and with now around 10,000 categories and hopefully 10x that many links within a year. Is it worth upgrading to 3.2E or switching to another product altogether.

I've been with Indexu since the dark days of Version 2 and while one or two peripheral bits seem to have improved over the years, the performance upto 3.0.4 hasn't.

3.2E seems to suggest that it will do the job but can a few who have bought this product comment on how effective this version over previous releases. I just want something where I am not frustrated yet again that half the features don't work.

Honestly, I haven't bought it, but I will say its well worth it. But to get it I think you have to have index which you said you have. Its very good and well worth the money.

When you say you "haven't bought it" does that mean you have tried or not?

I have 3.0.4 which I suppose means I have fork out more money for both 3.2 and then 3.2E licences ($199). Dody has already had two purchases off me already and the thing still doesn't correctly show the number of links in a category. Just like to hear from some actual users telling I am not wasting more money.

    just a couple of notes.

as for the upgrade, this is an unknown. I think there was a fee to upgrade to v3.1. but the upgrade to v3.2 was free but I'm not sure to who. I know it was free to v3.1 owners and I think that offer extended to all INDEXU owners. Since dody tends not to visit this forum and usually does not respond to posts, emails, IMs, etc, we may not get an answer anytime soon. Also, I think dody has indicated that whenever v4 comes out, everyone will be entitled to a free upgrade. Absent any specific guidance from dody, it would appear you would be able to get v3.2 at no charge.

versions prior to v3.2 could not handle a large number of categories and/or extensive levels of categories. Certain pages would just not display. I seriously doubt that you would be able to run "10,000 categories" on v3.0.4

While v3.2E Enhanced runs without flaw on my site, getting it installed on a site will take some effort. Some folks have problems with getting the enhanced URLs to work. and all the templates/files have to be customized. While it is not for the faint of heart, it is chock full of (most) all the MODs I created.

But it really depends on what you want to do with you site. v3.2E Enhanced may have the one feature you need for your site and that may make it worthwhile.

I have been doing links sites for almost 6 years and have come to the conclusion that, while all the features that come with a links program (and v3.2 and v3.2E Enhanced have plenty of features), I'd much rather have lots of traffic to my site.

With that as a guide, the one feature that is directly related to traffic is the Search Engine friendly URLs. v3.2 has that; v3.2E Enhanced has even better Search Engine friendly URLs; and my LinksCoder program has the best Search Engine friendly URLs.

So the question now is "how much" to get my hands on your 3.2E version? I presume you can supply both 3.2 and 3.2E.

... and yes 3.0.4 does not like 10,000 categories. It is currently waving a white flag.

well, the going rate for v3.2E Enhanced is $99.

unless we hear otherwise from dody, I can provide v3.2.

Well then you have a sale. Was going to spend a day or so checking out other scripts but $99 is fair enough. I will purchase via your website now.

It is worth the money and upgrade. I am updating my site now. Yes it is takes time. but i think after it is all say and done it will be a better site. Plus the support that esm gives is out of this world. I do not know what i would do without his help.

I hope this helps in making your decision. And Good Luck with your upgrade.

Well now 24 hours into 3.2 (not touched 3.2E yet) and I can report that Indexu has made significant strides performance-wise in this release. A lot better than 3.0.4 and I'm glad I upgraded. Had fun with mod_rewrite but got there in the end and hope that thread provides useful info to others with similar problems.

Thanks to ESM for his help.

actually, I meant to mention that you should install any MOD as is without making any changes first. Get it to run as the author intended before you start with any changes. Otherwise, you don't know if the problem is with the MOD or with the changes you made. (I will include this in the readme file for v3.2E Enhanced).

There are actually additional speed enhancements in v3.2E Enhanced. The code was VERY inefficient in a few places ( and I am far from being SQL expert ) so I made some changes to speed things up. Most of the changes were with the categories ( which is a major problem anyway ).

As I said, the mod_rewrite is a challenge. It even gives me trouble from time to time...

I own a license to Indexu 3.2 but I have not bought V3.2E due to the money issue atm but I know for a fact its good, I have talked with those that use it and I have seen it in action so its very good.

Just went to 3.2E. the support from ESM alone is worth it. Even if there were no changes, I would feel good about throwing another $100 his way just to support the effort he has put in towards helping all of us with this application.
