    Default Validate Review Error

I'm running Indexu 3.0.2 (since 3.0.4 went buggy on me). When I try to validate reviews, I received the following error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/www/fwrestling/index/lib/category.class.php on line 290

Can an admin validate reviews? Or is that only available to editors?

admin can validate reviews. I'm not sure what the problem is since I'm using 3.0.4, maybe you should try installing the patch available for download.

    Hart,

Can you suggest the best way to upgrade to 3.0.4? When I purchased the product, I tried an install of 3.0.4 (twice), which failed. Then I installed 3.0.2 successfully and tried to upgrade, but continued to receive the same error (shown below).

    ----------------------
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_STRING' or `T_VARIABLE' or `'$'' in /home/www/fwrestling/index/lib/link.class.php on line 1085

Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/www/fwrestling/index/lib/link.class.php:1085) in /home/www/fwrestling/index/admin/index.php on line 18
    -----------------------

I even dialogued with Sofiah in support, but was basically told to stick with 3.0.2 if it worked correctly. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help on both questions I've posted, btw.
I'm sure that as I get more up to speed I'll have more about some of the mods you've mad on your great site.

ok. My suggestion is to do a new install.

delete the files on your server and replace them with the new 3.0.4 files.

Be sure to replace the patch files with the old ones on 3.0.4

do not delete the mysql database

Once you've deleted the old files, upload all the new 3.0.4 files, chmod each file appropriately, 777 or 755

    Run a fresh www.website.com/install.php

    and everything should be ok.

problems: most problems are caused by editing templates or php hacks and forgetting small syntax.

An example was when I copied and paste a code hack into link.class.php the word password was cutoff into two lines, which caused a fatal error.

you have to be verycareful about syntax and copying from forums when editing or hacking your files.

customizing is great, but not at the expense of fatal errors.

My suggestion is always back up files you intend to update or hack, so you can go back to it.

    Hart,

I can try that again...the problem is, when I originally bought the program, I tried twice to do a fresh install with the 3.0.4 files (before any customization), and got the same error.

I'll try a fresh install and let you know what happens.

    typical installation problems are:

    1. wrong configurations and category path settings

    2. forgetting to chmod files to write/read/execute

The problem faced by CMerrit is exactly the same as tariqali. It is on the php configuration, version 3.0.4. requires the asp_tags variable to turned off (still can't find out why version 3.0.2. don't). I've suggested to contact the hosting provider and ask them to do that.

    Sofiah,

Thanks for clarifying the reason for the problem. I have contacted my server folks to request the change. I'll report back here with how things go.

I will make this suggestion... you might want to add a paragraph about this in the 'readme' file. It's not something the general new user is going to be aware of. You may also want to tell them that one easy way to check the variables before contacting their host is to find the program 'phpinfo.php' where it lists all the variables and their settings.
