Default Some ranting and question on 3.2E

I brought indexu 2 years ago for one of my projects and have a on and off relationship with it. Just 2 months ago, I finally decided to go all out with it, customizing it for one of my sites. Part of my motivation is esm’s indexhelp site which saved me lots of time and effort in customizing the script, and freed me to work on some of my own mods that I need but wasn’t available. After 2 crazy months, 2 hours every day after my normal job, I was almost approaching the finishing line in customizing the script to exactly what I wanted, the ‘new’ version of indexu came out. I almost went crazy, but decided to redo the customization on 3.2. Then I found out esm is doing an enhanced version, which has most of the stuff I wanted already installed on it. I am definitely buying 3.2E to save myself lots of time and frustration.

Sorry for all the ranting, what all I really want to find out is about the multiple categories for each link mod. I could have swore that mod isn’t anywhere in the indexuhelp site even though I saw the demo for it. Therefore I had to do a multiple cat mod myself and now I am wondering whether the mod esm has does the same thing, and whether it was done in the same way. If it does the same thing, I don’t have worry about adding it to 3.2E. I was wondering whether esm could let me know how he did his. I had to change the category_id in links database from integer to varchar to accommodate the string with multiple category_ids. I then change the List category object in lib folder to ouput a multiple select box. Then I exploded the category ids collected from the add/modify form into a string separated like this 4|5|10|25, and that ends up in the database. As for displaying them in the categories chosen, I change the mysql function to ‘cat like $cat’ instead of ‘cat=$cat’ at couple of places. Does your multiple categories mod work like this too?

I also did a checkbox mod so listers can add by check box in addition to dropdown and radio box. Wondering if anyone is interested.

I also did a pay by paypal for sponsored listings so payment for sponsored listings is automated. If enough people are interested, I want to further develop the mod for sale. So let me know.

I couldnt agree more, ... Id like to also so that ESM is a wonder and does an amazing amount of work in keeping indexu afloat... he should just about be a paid staff member for the amount of replys he does

Ive also have done alot of modifications... and its just not practicle to keep having to make changes every time a new update comes out..... is there anyway that there could be a platform version, and then everything which will be added to will be based on that platform version. maybe this would be a good option for v4.... it would be great to see a community of users share mods etc....

but all in all.. totally agree

If you want to make money from your MOD, I suggest printing out a copy and write the words "Homeless - Will work for money" on the back of it. Then go stand on a busy street corner in some ragtag clothes and a 4 day beard and wait for kind people to hand you money as they pass by.

Other than aladdin's static page MOD (and that may be obsolete with the static pages in v3.2 and v3.2E ), I am not aware of any MOD that has sold more than once or twice. Sounds like you have created a worderful MOD. I encourage you to develop it and to sell it.

But don't expect much, if any, sales. I hope I am wrong that that you sell a million of them. But let's face it. this is a dead site and a dead program. To the extent that the owner participates in the discussions, it will come to life. But for now, it is dead.

Your multiple categories for each link MOD sounds like it does the same thing as mine. I have done it the way you describe it except I did not use the LIKE operator ( I am not sure if you will have any problems with that or how efficient that would be ) . My current incarnation of that MOD uses a separate SQL table and that is the version that will end up in INDEXU v3.2E ENHANCED.

You can see some of the features of INDEXU v3.2E ENHANCED at http://www.indexuhelp.com/forum/inde...=tree&goto=872 ( I do need to update the list )

And you can see some of the MODs in action here: http://www.indexuhelp.com/indexu32e/

I'll provide admin access in the coming days so you see some of the other MODs.

Thanks dody, I had already downloaded 3.2. I am just saying that instead of customizing it again like what I did to 3.1. I am just going to wait for 3.2Enchanced from esm.
