    Default Optimizing INDEXU for Categories

well, I am a glutton for punishment. I realize that INDEXU is dead or at least this forum currently is. Even Polo5 has stopped posting and he had an addiction to it!

I posted a tongue-in-cheek msg about the new features as shown in the v4 demo and only 50 folks viewed it in the subsequent 6 weeks ( and the way vB counts views, I am sure there is some double counting in that number ). As I said, DEAD.

Well, a few of us still hang around to help the unfortunate who purchase INDEXU and answer a stray question every now and then. I even did a couple of MODs recently ( the random link and related links MODs ).

But I am still doing stuff.

About the only reason I do them is because I use them to further develop my LinksCoder mod/program. If I can do it in INDEXU, I know I can do it in LinksCoder since the coding for it is much easier. And most of the guts of the code is the same anyway.

Anyway, the single biggest problem for INDEXU is it ability to handle a large number of categories in certain situations ( ok, INDEXU does lack some "money making features, also ).

So, ( for the few of us remaining ), I may do some work to speed up the processing of category information.

Just a thought. If you have a site with lots of categories, let me know.

supposedly, faithfound.com has 8,713 categories and 94,295 links

category intensive pages don't make it: see http://faithfound.com/hot.php

    Neither does http://faithfound.com/top_rated.php or http://faithfound.com/pick.php.

but I am not sure if it is a combination of categories and links or just the number of categories. or maybe even the host server and/or the local computer.

at http://www.indexuhelp.com/aWork/ I have 5,128 categories and 123,320 links and I am running 3.1 pretty much right "out of the box" with the official patch installed and only a few minor changes. and http://www.indexuhelp.com/aWork/hot.php seems to run OK.

are you just seeking info or do you have a lot of categories????

A long long long time ago I told you about that
In past I had an idea how to use indexu for other things and I used it as a simple category structure. I imported round about 45000 categories and indexu was working fine with tem, but without links
I included all the content with a simple php include...

    Regards
    Frank
