one indexu site for 2 languages ?!

Hello,
i'm searching a way to use one Indexu website with one database for two languages !

Has anyone done this ?

What do you think about this:

1. A new field with country flags for every link like phplinks.

2. Each link is in its own language, this is impossible to change.

3. New fields for second language content of categories and a second install of indexu with the same database, that uses this fields for category content in the templates ?! Rest of the second script is also in the new language, so that only the link data will be in the language of the link owner.

4. All categories in two languages or new fields for category name in the second language - is this possible ???
Or should a change also script code for this changes ?

This should be all, or what do you think ?
Please tell me your opinion.

you can probably modify your listing so that it displays the fields based upon the language.. i.e. instead of description, change it to description_english and add description_spanish

then, modify the script so that it displays the description based upon what language they have selected..


so instead of having <%description%> in your template you would put <%description_language%> and then modify it to replace that with the $description_$language

or something along those lines..

Hm, i'm not so firm in php and i think it is easier to install a second indexu for the same domain in another folder and the same database with some new fields.
When i can use special content and templates for each language.
If you have a better idea and know how to do - lets start

Btw, i read in another thread something about a lot of hacks from you.
Do you have more hacks for indexu ?

Frank, it's hard to make indexu having 2 languages. It's not as simple as adding new language fields. You will much require hard work on hacking the code. It may easier if you install 2 indexu, you may planning to use 2 different database each with their own language.

two databases are bad because i have all the links twice (is this right ?).
My plan is:
Creating a new linkfield for country flags like phplinks - each link has his flag.
Perhaps every link can have two descriptions but this seems to be very difficult because some users don't know both languages and if they left the field blank the link is bad.

Creating ne fields for the categorietable and all names can exist allways in english or something else (how can i add more fields for categories ???)

And must only change some code for the new or changed fields and so i can use the same database with differnet templates - your script is better as you think

Dody: the biggest problem is that i'm waiting since October 2002 for the new version to do this changes and translating becuase it is stupid to change the whole script and after that change it again for the new and better version...

I have another site in belgium this one is in 2 languiges we use t setups and 2 databases a main database and a slave the slave is singronised from the master every hour and so you have the links twice bud thats with the current price of disc space not a real problem if you like to do it in one script my programmers can help you they are in india and do a good and cheap job.
