    Default Nicecoder

I just purchased my copy of the DMOZ extractor but the downloaded file has this format and has refused to get unzipped. Here it is ... extreme_dmoz_extractor.exe.gz.

I suspect the format is right but then again it might be corrup..can someone help. I need to extract data before tomorrow.

    Thank you

The format is not correct, you have something messing up the download.

You can try downloading it again to see if it will work. If it still downloads with the .gz extension try renaming it to extreme_dmoz_extractor.exe

The file should be 3,136,948 bytes in size.

I renamed the file and it worked ok...however the URL path I am selecting is not what is getting outputed. Please advise...what's the difference btw the structure and content rdf. I am using the content rdf bcause it kicks the other out. even though the manual goes through both....kind of confusing.Perhaps a new manual or rather updated manual will be helpful.

A new or updated manual isn't required. If you follow the manual exactly you will get what you want extracted.

As the manual says, you must pick a category. Then you want to do the structure, which are the categories. Then after that you use the content, which provides the links.

You can't use just the content because IndexU won't know where to put the content if the sturcture (categories) don't exist.

Not a clue, I've never seen that error before. The only thing I can think of is that the rdf files may not be complete (try downloading them again).

I have had very little luck with the extractor. I have input the category I would like to extract data from but most times it errors out or returns nothing. I am not even sure how to even begin to correct this issue ... perhaps help extracting the category will be helpful since the funds I spent has not paid off.

Get yourself a copy of the Extreme DMOZ Extractor Guide and follow it exactly and you won't have a problem.

I have been trying to extract the data from hereTop/Business/Opportunities/Networking-MLM/] i.e. the one that starts with Acai PLus and ends with Zija Intnl.

But instead the extractor pulls data from * Amway and Quixtar (4)
    * Mary Kay (8) which is only 12 entries. Far from the 226 original...please help.

If you extract Top/Business/Opportunities/ you can pull out the networking-mlm category in IndexU and get all the links you want.

No idea why it's working like this, but it is.
