Moved Directory -- Now cannot view my categories?

I just moved my web directory and cannot seem to view my web directories, I keep receing these errors;

"The requested URL /arts-culture-catalogue/ was not found on this server."

arts-culture-catalogue is just a example, I get that with all my categories. What have I forgot?

I managed to fix it by removing the .htaccess file from the site and it works, but then Mod rewrite won't work.

did you run update category paths?

I think mod rewrite isin't enabled on the server, will have to install it later.
