making custom indexu for selling?

I'm currently learning php (been working with it on and off for 3 years)
and I think it would be fun to make a custom version of indexu like esm has done.

If it should turn out to be any good I would like to sell it and I wonder what I need to do. With permission license from you, like how esm got permission to sell his 3.2E version.

Like you, I had no knowledge of PHP when I came across INDEXU 2 years ago. But I had an interest in learning and INDEXU is a delight to work with. There are some design flaws and it has its share of bugs but it beats most other links programs with its superb coding style.

While I certainly have an opinion on your proposed venture, I will say this. By the time you learn enough to put a custom version out there, you could have created you very own program.

the INDEXU code belongs to dody. while I think it OK to use his code to customize it, it is still his code. Which means you cannot sell it to others unless they have purchased the program from him. And you cannot even give it away unless they have purchased the program from him.

If you want to learn it and give your MODs away to others who already own INDEXU, that would be OK. It is what is done at every LINKS type programs that I am aware of. You just cannot profit at dody's expense.
