    Default Mailing system issues

can I ask you something else ?

I've made a test to be sure the mailing sistem is working and it doesn't.
I made myslef an account and subscribe to a few categories. After that I logged back in into admin account and add some links to that categories.
It's been 2 days and still no update notification received on that user account mail.
Is there anything I shoud do?

    thanks again...

Moved from http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...ead.php?t=6381 This is not related to the previous thread.

First make sure that you are capable of receiving those emails. You may assume that there were no emails being sent out only because you didn't receive them in your inbox. Did you check your spam or bulk email box to make sure they weren't filtered by mistake?

Next, I'm not sure how the notification system works exactly but it may not work if links are added by an admin. Try registering as another user and submitting a link to one of the categories as that user.

the email is only sent to the link owner's email address and then only if the $notify_link_owner variable is checked on the link add page when adding the link

If admin add the link himself, category subcribers notification will be not be sent.
It is sent only when admin/editors approve links.

It's not what I was hoping to hear but this is it..

Of course it matters. When adding them as the admin it won't notify anyone unless you check the box that says Notify Link Owner. If you add links as a user then the user should receive the notifications.

If you added links as admin and did not enter an email address, there is no-one to notify.

No, YOU do not have to create or use a user account when YOU add the link. YOU can elect to send an email to the link owner if YOU add the link thru the Admin Control Panel.

However, sending the email is optional when YOU add the link thru the Admin Control Panel. To the left of the Add New Link submit button on the Add New Link form is a check box entitled "Notify Link Owner." If YOU want to send the link owner an email announcing the addition of his/her website to YOUR link directory, YOU must click this check box. If YOU click that check box, INDEXU will send an email to the link owner when you submit the form. If YOU do NOT click that check box, INDEXU will NOT send an email to the link owner when you submit the form.

I should point out that when YOU add an link thru the Admin Control Panel, YOU may omit the link owner's email address, the contact name and the description from the submitted form (If YOU add the link thru the publically available add form page instead of thru the Admin Control Panel, these three fields are required). If YOU add the link thru the Admin Control Panel and omit the link owner's email address, then obviously the email will not be sent to the link owner when you submit the form.

Seems to be working the way I would design it (except I might require an email, contact name and descrption even if I had make something up for them, e.g., webmaster@website.com, Link Owner, Website Title).

Either I do not understand what YOU are trying to do or INDEXU will do what YOU want it to do.

    YOUR turn.

    thank you for your answer.
I got that... but i was talking about email subscriptions....when a normal user wants to get email notification if a new link is added to a certain category...he clicks on the "subscribe to this category" link that is up on the right side of every category.. i'm not talking about the link owner... on my site i am adding all the links and i don't want to notify the link owners... because it's not necessary in my case..

I run some tests and the thing is email subscriptions are being sent only if links are approved from the admin panel... if i'm adding a link as admin users that have subscribed for email notification wont get that notification about new link added...

If is necessary i'm going to add links as a user from the add.php form.

sorry for not being more explicit in my first post.

The reason for that is what would happen if you imported 50,000 links? Your system would spam someone to death.

It only sends the emails for listings that are added "naturally" (which means submitted by users).
