Install problem

This is probably a server configuration issue but thought I would it open to the forum.

I am trying to install the old version of Index (v3.0.4) on an server running:
Apache 2.0.52, MySQL 4.0.21 and PHP 4.3.8.

The install page is playing up. It picks the correct path names but entering Database username, password, dbname and host and pressing configure does not write to the file application.php. The page simply refreshes without the new settings showing up. I then tried writing manually editing the settings in application.php and but install.php doesn't pick them up.

application.php has the correct chmod settings 666 (and tried 777)

Any suggestions?

I looked through the entire posts other than the last post in this group on install. Had I bothered then I would have realised it's that register globals issue.
