Well, I started to post it here but vB cannot accept a large msg ( or it has been configured that way )

    So I posted it here:

You really should look at this!

Your right ESM, I had to strip all listings of cats from hotlisting, search etc etc.. just because it was totally killing on pageload times... Its a serious issue for anyone with a large amount of cats

well, I tinkered with the code to optimize it and it does run faster in v3.2E but anything to do with the categories will be slow relative to the other stuff.

But the new cached static page feature allows the page to load much faster, so that is nice.

I've seen that same coding by dody in other places and I'm going replace it with faster code.

I was able to reduce the size of the actual query from over 133,000 characters to just over 41,000 characters.

That alone has to improve performance some. Plus, my way is more straightforward.

Now all have to do is look throughout the v3.2E code to make additional reductions there.

I think v3.2E will be much faster...

esm, if you find the way to reduce that query it would be great.
this is the main problem i got so far.

if you have a lot of categories, the query will build ... or .. or ... or .. or .. statement until it reach all lowest level in category tree.

if you have at most 500 categories .. it won't be a problem. But if you have more, the the page load will become long.

I reduced it by amost 70%.

I can show you lots of places where the code could be tweaked to make it run faster. I'm making the changes as I find them.

Buy a copy of v3.2E and take a look for yourself.

I continue to work on v3.2E just been dealing with an allergy attack for the the 4 days which slowed me down considerably.

Removing the user features will not make INDEXU any faster. well, maybe by a nanosecond or two but that would be about it.
