Default Error: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by serve

Upgraded PHP and cPanel on a server that had a 1 year old up and running site of indexu v5.x and got some errors. At first we got a message like:

/public_html/.htaccess: Invalid command 'SecFilterEngine', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

Now once mod_security has been disabled we get this:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client in /public_html/lib/db.class.php on line 20

Anyone have ideas how to fix?

    thanks Kevin

More information might be helpful, like what version of PHP you upgraded to? What version of cPanel ( but I doubt this will be an issue ).

If you look at the error messages, they basically tell you whats wrong. The first one is a problem with your .htaccess file. Posting the contents of it would help in determining the problem.

The second error message basically says you need to ugprade your MySQL version too. What version are you currently using??

If you get that error, then mod_security was not enabled via htaccess

As for the client error, try removing (deleting) and re-adding the mysql user in your database.
