Unhappy Dmoz Extractor, should I try it?

I have been considering if I should try the Dmoz extractor, but I am not sure...
Since I already have close to 300 links I am not sure about the step to sync the output to the existing databse...

    Any opinions on that one?

I've just tried using the dmoz extractor and the first thing that i noticed was that it didn't work fully until i had input my license info and then turned my computer off and back on again.

Extracting the data from the downloads from dmoz wasn't that hard, but uploading it to INDEXU is a bit harder. When you do the categories you end up with loads of categories you don't want and when you upload the links into the categories you can end up with hundreds.

It's the Start ID that i'm not sure about. What number do you put in that part ?

BTW any chance of a MOD that can change the View Categories so that you can tick all the boxes and then all you've got to do is untick the ones you want to keep.

It would be very easy if you decide to get one category and all of its children. Just import the data to indexu.

But if you need to combine some category or remove some part of that category, you need to rework the output with ms excel. It would be need some times and carefully to make sure the category tree is not corrupt. I use dmoz data here, www.dodyshopping.com

Is there anyway I can pay to have someone add links by any chance? I feel I dont really know what I am doing and would rather have someone do it for me for a fee.

Sure, I will do it. How many links do you wanr? What type of links, with or without email address?
    With email $0.10 per links
    Without email $0.02 per links
I can create dump MySQL files for you or even upload them to your server. All links URL will be uniques. There is a minimum order. Please PM to me.

Hmmm...is there a reason why it will not take any root settings? Regardless of what I set it starts with Top/Arts....

Alladin, can you add them to the existing database? I may be interested in buying a couple thousand links....

    Hello,

I look at your directory and I do not understand what is its focus. I might be easier (and much faster) to rebuild a new category structures and to add the links you already have than to recategorize 2000 links.
I can give you a logical structure dump file and its associate links providing you told me what is the focus of your directory.

...then I read that its because its in trial mode and filtering is disabled

Alladin, the MF links is spanning a wide spectrum with the focus on business, graphics/design and games. Its a rather odd mix, but its the way I like it

    Hello,

I do understand your point of view but in that case I can not help you, recategorize 2000 links would just take too much of my time.
    Sorry!

Would it be possible to add say 1000 links to a new category, just in a big lump for say...hosting? Then I could sort things myself from there. Would that be possible? I am thinking that I could add a new category, import the links, import links from the old category, delete it and sort things as I want it. Would that be possible?
