Default Custom field start offset feature?

Im not sure if anyone else would find this usefull, but could there be a way that when your updating from one version to another, it takes into account extra fields in the database?

Im not talking about custom fields, for example, If you put a extra field in the link table, just as an example a timestamp, and you dont want the users to be able to see it when they modify their form.

It works fine if you manuelly go thru and change the custom field start offset number in all the pages that have it declared.., I was just wondering could it be set up in the installation script and maybe also in the admin CP so it can be typed in?

I'm not sure manually change the offset feature will work. But have no plan to add more additional fields in idx_link.

    Thanks dody,
I understand that you have no plans to put more fields in the idx_link but it would be handy for people who want to add feilds to the database(or people who already have), without the users (web surfers) being able to see the feild when they are at a page which displays all the custom fields.

For example, in Idx_link if you wanted to put a field called "notes" so that the admin could write notes about the listing.... but the admin doesnt want the users to see those notes when all the custom fields are displayed....

Its very hard to upgrade easily with a database being differant.

    Look forward to your thoughts.

In 5.2.0, the custom field now have permission

    - all user
    - registered user only
    - admin only

Not only that we have improved a lot the custom field feature.

I suggest you to install 5.2.0 in different folder and see how it work.

    Default also

You may think about deleting the "show custom field" code and then just enter in the custom fields you want to show. Just don't show your "notes" field.
    Using INDEXU Version 5.4
