Copyright Issues

Ok, I'm not sure if this is the best place to post a general question, no about indexu, but about something in a way related to indexu...

I was thinking of this crazy kinda cool idea, of creating something like dmoz, maybe not as powerful or deep as this nice site, but maybe something simpler and no so powerful, I was thinking on registering a name something like "Xmoz" or maybe "Xpmoz" and maybe use similar colors to this site.... I'm not planning to copy every single thing.... but more or less create something really similar to this site but not quite it...

Would I be breaking some copyright issues here? Just wondering...

(Note: I'm not creating this site, is just a general question that poped in my mind)

I do not know but I think it's fine. The name you're registered is not the same or contain any other company name or brand name.

I agree, but do you think there will be a problem if I use the same colors and the same format?

If you decide to use the same format and colours then I strongly suggest that you get yourself a good lawyer as you can expect a lawsuit filed.

Not trying to be smart but they would have trademarked their layout as well

Btw: Don't forget, that the most important things in dmoz are:

- directly searchengines readable links.
- Bonus for Google directory
- Directory of other bis sites.
- every site can use it

Without that every global directory isn't worth the space of the server

Btw. why do you want such a name ?
