confused: importing converted data into indexu
hi all.
i am having a bit of a time trying to import data into indexu from data that i have already formatted (including category id's and all) that i have worked on and saved in excel.
understanding that you have to save the file either as a .txt file or a .csv file, i have attempted to import the data which is about 1,700 links.
the first time i imported.....i only got 10 listings to show up with one being correct and the others were skewed (i.e. the data such as the name was not in the appropriate area, or the mailing list was in the description area...etc..etc.) which looked odd after i did all that seemed logical in order to ensure that it all works.
the second time, what i did was i simply tried to only import 20 listings (20 rows), and all i got was the first of the 10 to show up. none of the others visible.
i spent about 16 hours ensuring that all the data was placed in the needed areas (values etc..etc), but i still get this same situation.
i have the file ready at hand and ready to go...so i guess i just need a step-by-step detail on how to do this.
i also have bbedit which i usually use for raw text editing, but for this it just seemed just more logical to use excel for this task.
thus far, i have not pulled out my secret weapon, bbedit, without the need to realize that there has to be a better way to do this before i proceed in the wrong direction.
overall, in summary, the reason im doing this is because i used to use a program called "hotcgilinks" which i purchased like almost 7 years ago, that uses the cgi bin to operate.
but recently my hosting company told me that it was using up like at times 95% cpu and they told me that i need to do something about that. so with that said, and being an indexu fan....i decided that i would simply convert all the data....and kind of cut and paste all the various values according to the indexu set up, and do it that way. so that when the importation takes places, everything simply falls in place.
so here i am and i'm just having a bit of a problem.
lehman's terms in explaining a step by step process in resolving this would be so so great and much appreciated. i feel like im almost there.
thanks
