The number "770" can be found in the following files

browse.html
detail.html
footer.html
header.html
index.html
search.html
/cp/header.html
/cp/footer.html

@bruce. the only places i have 770 is index.html and header.html. what i cannot work out is why if i change index.html from 770 to 100% why it stays as 770? is there any css that controls this? thanks

which version of INDEXU are you using? your signature says 5.3. If so, NICECODER does not provide support to any version prior to v5.4. You should upgrade.

bruce provided you with the files to edit in v5.4.

in v5.3 you will need to edit the following files in the themes/kosmos folder (or whatever theme you are using):

footer.html (2)
header.html (5)
index.html (1)
/cp/footer.html (2)
/cp/header.html (5)

The number in parentheses is the number of places you will need to change in each page.

For development purposes, use FireFox to avoid IE issues with file caching. Otherwise, you could make changes all day long and never see the changes reflected in the displayed page.

CSS control of the table width did not occur until v6 DELUXE.

If you're using kosmos and 5.4x then you will find 770 in all the places I mentioned. There is nothing in the css files.

If you change from 770 to 100% and the source still shows 770 then you probably need to delete the cache.
