Question Captcha number claims it is wrong when it isn't

Hi - Been entering a few links and more often than not (4 ot of 5 entries) the system complains that the "turning" number is wrong. Few more tries and it eventually accepts it.

I double and triple check and it is definitely correct - unless I am becoming seriously dyslexic.

    Thanks

    Glenn

PS - Did search but didn't find anything - but i know someone will come up with 15 links

I am running 5.4.1 - does this mean that i shouldn't need to implement a "fix". But I am still experiencing the problem. Suggestions?

It was some time ago that i installed the application - can't remember if I added this theme or if it comes with it out of the box or if it might have anything to do with the problem. But it is called "Blackjuice"

Blackjuice is a free template that comes with IndexU. Are you SURE your running 5.4.1 or 5.4??? There is a difference between the two.

There were no captcha issues with 5.41. If you are having captcha issues then

    1) you did not upgrade fully
    2) something is wrong with the host
    3) your browser is caching the captcha
    4) it MAY be possible that the blackjuice template is missing some code (old template). Try changing to kosmos and see if it still happens. If no, then blackjuice is the issue. If yes, then re-read 1-3

Not sure i have ever updated - i installed 5.4.1 from scratch - and if i didn't i probably wouldn't have worried about an update as I had no data to migrate. would have wiped and started again...

Having said that - yes - 5.4.1 - it says so in the admin area.

I have more links to enter - so i can try the other template - but don't want to switch it "live" is there a index.php?xxxxx=template trigger we can use to force the template for for my session?

There is no method to display an alternate template.

If you get that much traffic that you can't change a template for a few minutes I would suggest you upgrade to Deluxe. The features can't be beat and it allows for more user activity as well.

I had a similar problem with Firefox when I tried to create an account in HelpDesk area (Nicecoder Helpdesk - Home (Powered by iDesk)), which uses iDesk, another NiceCoder product. At that time Bruce could not reproduce the problem.

Do they use the same captcha script code?

Something that I just realized after reading this again. If you're adding links to the directory why are you using the front end? You should be using the admin panel.

IndexU and iDesk use different code for captcha, although it's similar.

I'm on a Mac using Safari. It wasn't on the top of my mind that I could add links from the admin. But better I experience what the public experience. Otherwise how would I know there was a problem... Shutting your eyes doesn't make the monsters go away!

So if it isn't isolated to just me - then maybe there is a concern.

IndexU 5.4x is no longer updated and in fact will reach it's End Of Life (EOL) for support in May of 2009.

You will want to consider upgrading to Deluxe, as there are many features and functions that Deluxe has that 5.4x can only dream of. In addition, upgrades for Deluxe are much easier now than they ever were for 5.4x.

Actually - this annoys me. Going from a script that I bought thinking that this is all i need going forward and i think twice in this thread i've been told to go to the one with the monthly subscription - thought this was support not sales. (Correct me if i am wrong - a one off fee i am happy with (only just) but not ongoing)

I look forward to the problems with this supported version that I paid for being fixed up to May 09.

I don't know where you get the idea that IndexU has a monthly fee. It's an optional yearly fee if you want to continue downloading updates which are now on a mostly monthly basis. I say mostly monthly because there may be some months that we're late, things happen.

No other fixes are being offered for 5.40, that's why we released 5.41 so that all known bugs could be fixed, including the issues with captcha.

    As a note;

I signed up for your site. Captcha worked fine
I submitted Nicecoder.com. Captcha worked fine
I submitted the Tell A Friend form. Captcha worked fine

If there was an issue, I don't see it anywhere.
