Call up images for "New Links"

How do i call up images for new links on the home page. I usually call up my thumbs in rows.html with this:
<img src="http://www.XXXX/thumbs/<%link_id%>.jpg"> [which works fine in rows.html]

But when i edit the section that deals with new links in msg.php it makes it so the page does not work at all. As you know im not much of a coder ...is trying to do this possible..am i missing something? Is there a way to call up the images for the new links?

because msg.php is not a html file it will not work to use <%tags%>. You could try the same as you posted above but with $link_id . I dont know if this would work, but its the first thing i would try.
