Red face Admin Fetch Meta Tags doesn't work

The "Fetch Meta Tags" doesn't work in the admin/control panel.

I assume that this information is supposed to auto fill the link info after you type in the url and hit the button, but nothing.

a step, by step process to resolving this would be great.

searched high and low, far and near........ using the keywords (meta tags don't work) and nothing related to the problem that's in the admin area.

boy.....oh boy..........would that fix would save a lot of time when adding links.

    thanks,
    Jamesst

    Step by step?

Step 1) Confirm you have sockets and curl enabled.

If they are Not enabled, go to Step 2. If they ARE enabled, go to step 3

Step 2) Contact your host and find out why they aren't enabled

Step 3) Contact your host and find out why outgoing connections are not permitted

Also... Ensure that the site you are trying to get has Meta data. One way is to visit the site in your web browser and view the source of the page.

It might have sounded sarcastic, but it's not supposed to be. Honestly if the fetch meta doesn't work it's going to be someone else's fault lol

And yes, I should have mentioned like Frank did to check the other site to make sure they actually have the meta tags.

actually to the contrary bruce....if anything....i totally knew it was no sarcasm intended. it's totally ok. :-)

as for contacting my hosting company.....curls have been enabled.

anyways......i check the meta tag info and even tried for example "http://www.nbc.com" which has meta information in their source code info but it still doesn't work.

i'm assuming that this is what is supposed to happen when you click the "get meta tags" button.

    1. when in the admin area.....you go to add link.......
    2. type in the url in the url area...hit "get meta tags" and the title and the description of the site is supposed to autofill.

    well, it doesn't.

it's ironic, because if i do recall.....somewhere, somehow.......that if you put that data in the URL area....it would autofill the name, and description area...saving one tons of time typing in the information manually.

    hmmmmm.

    [minutes pass by]

actually i see its working on another one of my sites.....it must be a hosting thing.....im looking into this....i'll get back.

Default Admin Fetch Meta Tags doesn't work - RESOLVED

My hosting company resolved the issue and it works in Firefox. Which is the browser that I use and that i testify is the best broswer application on the market.

Here is what my hosting company said:

"It looks like the script was hitting a mod_Security error. I've removed the rule for your site and the error didn't come back."

but it doesn't seem like it works for:
    safari - mac
    internet explorer - mac

It's highly doubtful we'll ever test on safari or IE for mac because no one at Nicecoder uses a mac.

However, IF you were to determine the issue and send us the solution we would probably be grateful and supply you with a thank you gift.

well, at the moment...its seems like the best solution...is just to use firefox to add links....i think that that in the meantime would be the best option...which is actually not that bad.

    i think that that's a do-able situation. :-)
