Default Three free category structures - Country - State & Province

Since I was playing around with countries lately I figured I would throw up these three databases for users for free. They may make a good start for someone's next project.

All databases are in tab delimited format and can be easily imported into IndexU. These are only categories and they are each described below.

Canadian Provinces lists all the Canadian provinces (13 in total)

ISO List is a listing of every country in the ISO list. Please note that some users may be offended at how some of these countries are listed (ie Taiwan, Province of China). Note that this is NOT my choosing, but rather how an international body lists the countries and that has not changed. Feel free to edit this yourself if you use this file. (239 in total)

USPS States List is a listing of all US states, territories and base listings as provided by the US Postal Service(65 in total)

I hope you enjoy them and get some use out of them

If I remember right, they are mysql dumps. So you would import them using phpmysql

Understand that if you have any categories already then this will delete those. They are meant for someone to use one of them as a starting point for a new directory.

Of course you could open them up and change them so they wouldn't overwrite anything, but that's up to you.

    Hi Bruce,

Have you opened it? It looks more like an Excell file rather than MYSQL?!

Of course I opened them at one point, I created them. But I don't remember what I did.

If they're excel files then export them as tab delimited text so they can be imported through the admin panel.

    Hi Bruce,

You have been doing a great job with suppot, but as many of the forum users are not good with the script and programming so perhaps if you have a short description of how to install it will be great help for users like myself.

Please kindly open one of the files and post a short tutorial.

    Many thanks in advance

    Open file in Excel
Then file - save as - tab delimited text

    indexu control panel
database - import - choose (browse to saved .txt file)
    table - category
    file format - tab delimited
    start number 1
    click import

There should be no tutorial required, this is simple stuff really. You may not have known where to go to import it but after it's found there aren't really too many options to choose from.

I would love to finish the indexu admin manual but I just know Dody is going to throw me for a loop and change yet more things or make it even worse and release a new version and make me write a whole new manual. For now I'm putting off the manual until the new version comes out.
