customize indexu

Hi can anyone tell me whats the best way,for a none experience user to customize and change the look of my indexu.I mean mostly just moving blocks around and that.Like putt the login block somewhere else moving certain blocks on top of another.Maybe change there look.

I wasn't experienced one bit when I started doing this... And I'm no where near the level of Bruce, Inspireme, ESM, etc. But the only way you learn this is to get your fingers dirt

Setup a test site... Study the code in the .html files. Then look how things are being displayed on your site. Then, take a stab at it... If you really screw it up, no biggy... Its just a test site. Start again

FSGDAG is right , create yourself a sand box, use Xammp on your local machine, this will give you an out of the box appache webserver for you desktop pc, once you have learned the installation, upload your indexu source and install indexu. This is perfect to test and learn the templates.

cant run and install fresh installation of indexu on local host whit xampp.

says The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.

Can u show me how to set it up.

I uploaded all files in xampp\htdocs\new

make sure its is a new installtation of indexu, you cant copy the files from your already installed webserver.. yet. you have to put a fresh copy of indexu in your new folder on xampp. then make sure you have deleted you .htacess file (or else you get 500 error),then create your indexu database under the xampp control pannel in phpmyadmin, once you have done this run the installation file for indexu, should be http://localhost/new/install/install.php
go for a new install and enter the correct data base details ie:

user : root
password: (as default there is no password)
database path : http://localhost

once you have installed delete the install folder

then load up your indexu on xammp, and copy the templates you need from your online indexu to your xampp indexu themes folder

All this time i been working online and paying for hosting.lol This is much faster to work wit,gona save me some time for sure.

The newest version of xampp dont have apache 2.2.4 so i cant install perl
I noticed in indexu install said perl was not installed.Is it that bad of a thing for working local.host.

I wanted to say is, that there perl version is only supported on apache 2.2.4.

xampp 1.6.5 come whit apache 2.2.6

To enable curl in xampp for indexu u need to edit a line in xampp\apache\bin\php.ini

Take this ;extension=php_curl.dll

And make it like this extension=php_curl.dll that will enable curl.

Im glad to hear your going well

Im not to sure what the curl extension does, but I know my host does not allow this any way, so have been running none the wiser without it.

I will give this a go with my local version
