Default Clustered search results

Hi I'm a new user on here and am in the process of setting up my first directory.

Impressed so far but I would like some extra functionality, namely search result clustering. Is this possible?

Basically if someone searched for "cars" it would return all listings with the keyword "cars" in as it does now.

But in addition would show clustered related information on the left-hand side such as...

Ford (3)
BMW (5)

to greater refine the results. So the user could find the 3 ford cars that they're interested in instead of all 40.

Hope that makes sense.

It would be possible if you rewrote the seach and added a few functions, so the answer to your question is yes it's possible, but it's not going to be easy.

Basically you would need an index of the keywords, and any time someone searched for a keyword, the related keywords would be listed. However due to the way people add keywords for their site you would have many keywords listed that would have nothing to do with cars.

Thanks for the quick reply,

What if i had a closed directory? as in i was the only one who could enter keywords and it didn't take submissions directly?

Is there a quick way to add relational functionality without a major rewrite?

Say the directory had 30 sites listed and there were 10 unique items of data. So for the above example a Cars directory with make, engine size, no of doors, seats, etc.

Would it be easy(ier) to have a master directory with relational directories?

so a keyword search would return the master list of sites and then display relational category data on the left?

similar to this...

The functionality isn't there, it would need to be added.
