Static page for Indexu.

I am having a programmer to work on a hack to create static pages for all the pages dynamically create by browse.php, it is almost finish ( search is not working yet on the html pages but it will ) you can see it in action here:

For people like myself on a share server a static page is often faster than a dynamic one, further more it should help your site to be indexed by more search engine.

Unfortunately I cannot afford to give the hack away but in order to determine how much to ask for it I need to know how many of you are interested so if you are please post to let me know. In any case the cost will not exceed $10.00.

Note, this hack is not a plugin some change were made to 2 of the original scripts, if you are displaying your stats in index.php you need to create a cron job to refresh the new index.html every so often.

A programmer is also working on the creation of a program which will allow user to register on Indexu, phpClassified ( a free download for none commercial use http://www.deltascripts.com/phpclassifieds/) and Invision ( also a free download http://www.invisionboard.com ) in the same time, the new program will then handle all member task for every programs.

I am also planing to create more hack such as affiliate ( after the PPC hack is finish and working ). If you have idea about needed hacks please let me know.

$10 is low espeically if you have to pay a programmer to do it.

which pages are created? are the detail pages created as static pages also?

seems like the php page loaded more slowly

What is actually the difference between these two urls? I also didn't realise a difference in speed.

I'm interested in static pages too. But it should be like GT does. Their static pages show with the category name instead of an id value. That's my understanding of static pages. It also lists you much higer in SE caus the url could include a keyword too?

Anyway, I'm most interested in PPC

As for the speed there is not much difference during the weekend but I think that it will be more sensible during the week, I sometime wait several second between header display (static) and body display ( dynamically generated ) the improvement in speed may not be great but the main purpose was to be listed in more search engine.
Note that you have the option to force re-build of already created html page, when a link is add you can re-build the appropriate pages and directory to reflect the change. The name of the created directory and sub-directory is the same than the one showing on you index.php, one restriction, the name of the category can not contain a "/" if it doe it is replace with "_"

that looks much more like I thought! I'm interested in that hack definitely! Category structure is static and links etc. are dynamically. Great!

Please let me/us know when this hack is done!

The only static page created are under browse.php, around 500 to 800 pages and directories. I did not think it would be convenient to create static detail page, I have over 11.000 links in the directory 11.000 page seam to much especially considering that some Indexu users have more.

Heck, I'd pay $10 just to look at it. I'm used to static pages anyway.

thanks for sending me the mod! Actually I'm having some serious problems with it! Couldn't get it runnin! I tested on both local system and an live (internet demo) - both do not work! Please let your programmer check rebuild_index.php again! => see bugs report!!

Here is my bugs report:

- Intallation also manually! What functions are updated in lib? I have to do this manually caus I will not loose al my hacks!!

- install_rebuilder.php
=> does not give any message back! Should say something like: static_hack_mode db updated!

- rebuild.php
=> application not included! Must be "include("application.php");"
=> should say that this may last some minutes, depending on your category structure
=> Done message not in indexu layout!
=> categories should be built within a separate folder at the root_install dir => categories/...here go all the static categories in
(consider someone having > 50 main categories showing up at the root dir!)

-rebuild_index.php:
=> Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded.. (does loop somewhere at first category with \1)!!!

- rebuild_index.php and rebuild.php not in root directory => security concerns! Should be in admin (htaccess)

- clear_rebuild.php and force_rebuild.php => Status message in indexu layout.


Please update me about changes!

- I will ask the programmer. Do not forget that one of the gaol of the hack is to improve ones placement in the search engine. I was told that some search engine limit themself to how deep they go in your directory, if you create a directory where you put all your Index sub-directories you lost one level.

I'm still wondering why people like static page
no offense, but IMHO, P4 2,4GB 1GB RAM is already used by many servers.. .. you still get lightning speed even in dynamic page.

btw, yahoo and dmoz look use static page too.

@aladdin: ok. I installed static hacks mod version 2. everything seem to be ok!

there are four suggestion from my side:
1. everything should be in admin folder (security concerns)!
2. all static folders should be created in a separate folder like "categegory" or just "cat"!
3. all messages should be in indexu layout (css!) not just simple text!
4. You may seem right with the index depth and search engines! But it is somewhat more conveniént to keep all cat files in a separate folder. Compare with yahoo! I'm sure search engines still index this pages - and you get more traffic!

Two advantages of static pages comapared to dynamic!
1.Speedes up your directory!!
2. More important! All cats are indexed by search engines!!!
