Lightbulb Some planned mods, feedback wanted.

I am one of the original users of this script but haven't touched my own site for nearly two years so not really kept up with developments.

Anyhow all that's about to change and would like a bit of feedback if any of my planned mods interest anybody. If someone has already implemented them, tell me as I don't want to re-invent the wheel.

    1. Keywords. There used to be company called Goto.com (now named Overture I think) who operated a system where you could buy keywords. You paid in advance and if someone clicked through the link after searching using that keyword, it would reduce the balance. Some keywords were more popular than others.

Anyhow has anyone managed to incorporate such a system into Indexu yet? If not, what would people be willing to pay for such a facilty? My intention is to interface with Paypal.

    2. On the same theme as above, anyone setup something that charges for links to be at the top of categories?

Both of these above may require https but as I haven't sat down and figured it out yet, I am not entirely sure.

    3. Bit less complex, Java tickers. Like the ones which seem popular on various news websites (such as http://news.bbc.co.uk) but with links instead. Again, anyone interested or has it already been done?

    4. Relevant banner adverts for categories. I appreciate that we stick the code in individual headers but surely it's more efficient to have list of banners and simply choose which category you want them to appear in. There are pros and cons to this approach.

Hope I've got a few people thinking.

    Cheers

    Tim

https should not be a problem as most hosting companiens offer free shared ssl - at least our hosting company offer free ssl to all our clients.

Option 2 is for the client to buy a ssl certificate which is not a very good option unless the turnover generated from the use of the ssl is enough to cover the costs.

Looking forward to see all these mods.
