    Default PAYPAL for Sponsors MOD

This MOD is for those of you who are looking to sell sponsor listings and use PAYPAL to collect your money.

Here is a list of features:

    1. Registered user will have the ability to promote existing links to a "Sponsor" status
    2. Duration can be for a specific period of time or an automatically renewing subscription
    3. User will be able to renew/extend sponsor status at any time for a any period of time.
    4. The link will be marked as sponsor as soon as payment is received without
      admin intervention.
    5. Use PAYPAL to manage payment and allows for instant upgrading to sponsor status
I'll add a feature to have an email sent to the user when the "Sponsor" status is about to expire and shortly afterwards if needed.

I think this is a serious MOD for INDEXU owners who are serious about making money with their site.

If you would like additional information, demo, pricing, etc, send me an email (I'm responding by email only for this MOD).

Hmmm...I wonder what else you can use PAYPAL for to generate income for your site! (that is just a rhetorical question. I already have the answers - well, my answers - and have already done some work on them).

And I have added recurring subscriptions so that a user can sign up once as a Sponsor and PAYPAL will automatically bill the user every month...

and we learned along time ago in the internet that one of the keys to making money was automatically renewing billing.

I have created a hyperlink that can be placed anywhere on the page and will allow the linkowner to upgrade his listing to a sponsored listing. It is integrated with PAYPAL and can be an automaticaly recurring "subscription" or a non-recurring one-time event (the user can select the number of months).

you can test it here: http://indexuhelp.com/upload/business-business.html.

The "The Amazing Sales Letter Creator" link should show up as a sponsored listing: you can add up to 3 months to the expire date.

You can add the "How To Sell In Today's Tough Markets" listing to be a sponsored listing.

Here is the information you will need for these listing:

Link ID = 1 Password = 8976 - The Amazing Sales Letter Creator
Link ID = 2 Password = 2151 - How To Sell In Today's Tough Markets

Click on the [Become a Sponsor] hyperlink to upgrade the listing.

Once you successfully login and click the add to cart, you will see the PAYPAL developors screen. Click on the link (To access the PayPal Sandbox, please log in to PayPal Developer Central.) and enter esm2002@yahoo.com for the email and 123sm123 as the password. Then go back the signup page and click the add to cart again. You will then see the shopping cart. Click the add to shopping cart button.

Now you can goto the PAYPAL screen and click on the Secure Checkout button. At the next screen enter esm90210@yahoo.com for the email id and 456sm456 for the password. On the next screen click the Continue button and on the next screen click the Pay button.

You can now go back to the signup page and refresh the screen and the Expire date should increase by the number of months selected.

I have had a few questions on this MOD so let me try to answer them here.

    1. It requires a PAYPAL account
    2. It does not require v3.2E
    3. It will run with any version of INDEXU that has the SPONSOR fields
    4. It can easily be modified to run with any links directory program
    5. It is "modular" in that it requires almost no modification to the INDEXU PHP code
    6. and it can easily add more payment options such as paid listings, banners, etc
    7. Cost is $80.00.
    8. Comes with installation instructions. If I install it for you, the cost is $25

    Hello,

I like the way that one is working. I have 3 suggestion.

    1) Add password recovering routine
    2) No need for a dropdown menu for link title
    3) Adding "Upgraded Link" list in admin CP

Are you going to add an email to link owner when the sponsorship is about to expire?

    yep, I will do that.

    I can do that

    >> Are you going to add an email to link owner when the sponsorship is about to expire?
Yep. You will be able to run it manually and/or set it up to run as a cron job. Proabably a letter 3 days in advance, one the day of expiration and a final one 3 days after expiration. Admin will be able to select which, if any, of the three letters are sent at the linkowner level.

I should have the above enhancements ready by Tuesday of next week ( I have to go out of town this weekend ).

Since there is only one link ID = 1 what is the point of a dropdown menu. A dropdown menu imply that there is a choice, since there is no choice there is no point. I would also make the HTML code a little shorter.
    One last thing, you say:

"It can easily add more payment options such as paid listings, banners, etc"

Will you explain how to accomplish that. As you can see I am very ready to buy this new hack, it would be a great addition to my other site which is a little more complex than E-Gun.com.

I think you are referring to the Sponsor Link: just above the Add to Cart.

Just as a refresher, your site has my "User Control Center" MOD installed which allows the link owner to manage more than one link. That is why the drop down is there.

If you are 100% sure that the link owner will NEVER have more than 1 link, the code could be changed. There are two ways to handle it otherwise. One is to build the HTML inside the PHP code and pass the result to the HTML file or two, pass the data from the PHP file to the HTML file and then use an IF statement inside the HTML code to either build and SELECT form or build a single line of code.

I'll take aother look at it to see what might be done.

You will be able to see it in the code of the next version. I can show you easier than I can explain it. I just pre-plan all the things that the PAYPAL mod can do and then I can "mix-n-match" the mod based upon what you, the customer, wants to purchase.

and if you purchase just one thing and want another then I just send that code to you to upload and the PAYPAL is ready to go. You may need to change some HTML and/or make a small MOD to the PHP code but I think I can walk most folks thru that. At least that is how I envisage things. But one never knows.

Actually I was speaking about the MOD as it is presently show in this forum, but maybe you are using the same form in "My Account"? Anyway it is not very important.

I shall wait to see your code, please let me know when you are ready.

    Looks good

Question - can you restrict the number of "sponsor" sites per category

    Hello,

This mod can not restrict the number of sponsor for a given category. Thinking about it I am not sure that it is even desirable.
Here is what I did (with esm help) I did restrict the number of sponsor link display on the category page. I SORT the sponsor link by RAND and LIMIT to 3. Note that you can display the sponsor link in all category pages ( not just on page 1 for a given category).

I will probably put something in to allow a maximum number of sponsors. Although it would be a nice problem to have, you don't want too many sponsors for a particular category...

While you don't want too many, you also don't want to lose a potential sponsor. As part of restricting the number I would also give them a chance to be notified when a "vacancy" occurs. Or maybe even storing the potential sponsor's info and automatically processing it when a position comes available.

but the last option is one that I would probably only do if I can justifiy it...lots of folks would need it.

Anyway, I will put something together. And aladdin's approach may be another way to handle it.

Yep, you can now limit the number of sponsors.

see http://www.indexuhelp.com/upload/business-business.html. I set the limit to 3 but you can set it to whatever you want. Try clicking on [Become a Sponsor].

If the link is already a sponsor, it can renew its current sponsorship but once the limit is reached, new sponsors can not be added.

I'll work on sending an email when a position become available.

    Very good

It would be a nice problem to have, lots of paid sponsors - what I have noticed is that certain categories are more competitive than others - and while I don't have a paid option at the moment I have a number of requests from sites willing to pay!

You have to balance the look and feel of the site for the user vs having to many paid sponsors - 20% of my traffic is repeat visitors and its growing - I don't want to turn them off with to much advertising

Does this run like paypal does at the moment
    - once a person pays they get a confirmation/invoice email
    - can you separate tax costs

    Regards
    Mark
