Default Mass Emailer Hack...!

OK, maybe more like a mess than a mass!

Anyway, I have a rudimentary emailer to send statistics to the link owners. Or whatever is in the links table such as link_id, title, description, category_id, date, last_updated, email, hits, contact_name.

I may have a search page to allow selective emailing.

it will be available for free to members of my site and can be purchased separately for a small fee. details to follow. but I have to get it in better condition first: not quite up to my standards for release just yet.

OK, I have finished with the emailer. It uses a text form to send out the email so you can easily configure it. It also allows you to have many of these "forms" so you can send different ones base upon your "where clause." It also send emails to all link owners who meet the criteria which you can create. It also displays a line on the screen for each each email it sends. the line contains info on who the email was sent to. I will provide limited support on setting up the "where clause" for those who purchase the mod.

Great for sending to emails suspended link owners or for informing a category of link owners of some special or for emailing sponsors of required information or for emailing recently added links some special info and anything else you need to send emails.

that is all I plan on doing with this version.

Should I do a different version, it would be to use a screen of all the link table variables ( well, those that are applicable ) to select the links (i.e., replace the "where clause" box on the above screen). but that is considerable more effort than I want to expend at this point.

I have added an option to "preview" the potential list prior to actually sending the emails.

thanks! I'm just trying to create MODs that will benefit the INDEXU community which has a great group of folks. And I think INDEXU has a great future.

I haven't set up a list yet as I have been too busy with MODs. I know the time and effort I had to put into each and the level of complexity required for it to be installed. That is what I base my price on. Generally, $20 to $30 per mod. a few may be less and some may be more. The banner rotator MOD will be much more....

If you want a specific one, send me an email. They will work pretty much as I describe them so I make sure you understand exactly what they will and will not do before purchase. And if you need an additional feature, I may add it at no charge if I decide to do so ( but I am under no obligation ) or you can pay to have it added.

the "check backlink" or "Checking linkbacks Mod" is designed to test the existence of a reciprocal link on a specified page. This is done at validation time only ( although I may create another mod to be run from the Control Panel to check the reciprocal link of all the links ).

I am doing a second version of this MOD and in addtion to a "where clause" box, I am adding many of the fields in the idx_links table. So, in addition to the command line box for the where clause, you can just click a radio button ( hot, new, updated, pick, sponsor, etc) or enter a number (hits, rating, link, category ).

It's kind of like the "power search" but with more of the fields available.

For example you could send emails to:

all "hot" links in category 22 added in since 01-Sep-2003 ( to do this, you would click on "hot," enter 22 in the category field and enter ">31-Aug-2003" in the date added field
all sponsor links with at least 100 hits
all links updated since 31-Aug-2003
the where clause box is like a command line : you could enter all the info here if you wanted to if you are experienced with sql but it is just as easy to point and click.

    Esm,
I still think my suggestion of a pulldown selector of all available .mail templates makes it easier to pick which template to use

OK, I think I have an idea on how to do it. I have finished the advanced version and will install it shortly.

ok, I have added a dropdown list for the files.

you should put any such files in the admin/mail folder. the emailer will now give you a dropdown list of any files in the mail folder.

if you would like to try out the emailer, click on the link below.

    http://www.indexuhelp.com/indexu/admin/esm_emailer.php

I have disabled the actual send mail code in the program and instead just sent the results to the screen along with the actual printout.

    A few things to remember

You can click on buttons or fille in boxes.

select the correct Email File to use - esm_mail.mail. tha is the only one set up
in the boxes you can enter the operators (>, =, <, <>) or if you enter a number the program is automatically use the equal sign (=)
you can use just the WHERE CLAUSE box if you want or it is possible to use the WHERE CLAUSE box in addition to the other buttons and boxes.
if you want to see a simulation of the emailing, click the yes button for "OK to send email"
i have limited the number of results to 10 records.
I bought this mod and is working great. I already picked up 3 new sponsor sites based on the fact I can send sites their stats every Sunday.

Great work ESM I highly reccomend it to everyone!

    Thanks for the comments.

Yep, having run several links site for 3+ yrs, I wish I had something like this ( the one that came with G-T Links 2 was not nearly as good as this... ) and probably worth the price of admission alone to indexuhelp.com .

I am working on an improved version.
