Default Insert ads between links

I have posted a mod "Insert ads between links" to the members forums at http://www.indexuhelp.com.

It is just a basic hack at this point showing a single banner. I had to start somewhere!

With a little luck , I plan on adding the ability to have multiple ads/banners and the ability to target them to a particular category and do it on a random basis.

    Hi esm,

I just went to your site but couldn't find an explanation what the diffrence is between the memberships and what I would get for. Have I overseen something?

I have made it a little clearer. Basic membership includes access to all hacks/MODS posted in the forums as well as support for INDEXU thru forums ). Pretty much what I used to do in this forum. Also, I will offer enhanced INDEXU files and templates to licensed users for a fee. Priority membership adds support by email, IM and telephone ( USA ) support.

OK, I have finished the initial testing of the next phase of the Banner Insert MOD. Features include:

Randomly generated ads
banners or text ads ( actually, just any HTML )
can be category specific ( would that be called "zoned by category" ? )
Uses a flat file (text) for easy creation and upload (all you need is the category and the HTML)
I just need to integrate the MOD completely with INDEXU - which should not take much time.

I may add some date features - start/stop dates

For the future, I am looking at collecting monthly and cummulative click thrus in a mysql table and relating the ad to a user. Maybe even recording the number of "impressions" if I understand that term.

But it is almost 7 am and I need to go to sleep!

I forgot to mention that you can add an unlimited number of banners to the flat file.

I've added a feature to display the ad only during a start/stop date period.

maybe next I will adapt it to the browse page itself...

    It ain't fancy...kind of rudimentary, but....sure looks impressive....IMHO

    Default UPDATE

OK, the MOD will now count impressions (number of times displayed) on both a monthly and cumulatively basis. It will also count the number of times the ad was actually clicked on by the surfer on both a monthly and cumulatively basis.

It will also substract an amount per click from a dollar amount and stop displaying the ad when the dollar amount equals 0 (zero).

I still have a lot of work to do on it - it is still very manual at this point. it is administered by the INDEXU site owner, not the advertiser. Well, as soon as i create an interface.

well, after getting a very workable advertising banner rotator program, I scrapped the flat file approach and went strickly with SQL. It is pretty much the same only it has the same interface as the Administrator Control Panel for INDEXU.

send me a copy of the javascript banner code and I will test it. I will test a generic javascript to see if that works. I know from using PERL that cgi generated pages did not "go thru the browser" or something like that and I could not do certain things. Not sure it that is true here or not.

I would also like to say that it will display ads in just one category, all categories or somewhere in between - more than one but less than all categories.

You will also be able to select what type of ad - whether it will be a PPC ad or whether or not it will it run inclusive of start/stop dates.

you will be able to place ads between links, on top/bottom of the links or to the side of them or whevever. you may need to make adjustments to your templates for that.

it will come in two versions. the first will be admin controlled. and if i get ambious, the second version will be user controlled with admin validation. And maybe a third version to integrate payment systems like PayPal, e-gold, authorize net and 2checkout. But that is for the future.
