Here are the lists of features that should be implemented for upcoming versions!!!

Match your advertising to your categories for increased click-thru's. Category banners, top listing and link trade/affiliate sites are optional features. Easily change the method you rank the directory.

For example you can specify that all "preferred" links are listed first, "Top links" follow, and all "other" links will bring up the end of the search results. You may choose to rank all sites fairly.

The banner rotation system should enable you to target any size banners at contents of your directories/categories.

3. Sites that return link to you
Trade only option to list only sites that return link to you! - Perfect for link trading.

4. Rank specific sites at the top of categories and search results
Top sites option allows you to rank specific sites at the top of categories and search results. - Rank your own sites high, or sell higher rankings.
The top listing sites could be for example in a larger font and the link trading/affiliate sites should be listed in bold or you could choose to list them seamlessly together.

5. Affiliate Trade
Affiliate trade option allows you to rank affiliate sites or link trading sites above normal sites. - Send more traffic to affiliates, increase link backs.

6. Search specific site fields
A. Allow visitors to search specific site fields. (e.g. user defined fields). You can specify that certain links should always be listed at the top so that they get the most exposure. You can use this for premium listings.
B. Advanced stats system should, which tracks hits and referrers to any page of directory.

7. It should be easier to add extra user defined site fields

8. Rank results / or category listing by incoming hits
You should be able to have the option to select a specific banner to be displayed in each category. An ability to rank results / or category listing by incoming hits should also be considerate.

9. Fourth different kinds of listings
There should be fourth different kinds of listings in each category.
A. Sub-Categories, sub categories of the current category.
B. Top listing sites, ones that you have entered to be displayed at the top of search listings.
C. Link Trading/Affiliate sites, ones that you have selected to listed above standard search results.
D. Standard sites, sites that you have not selected to rank high.
You may choose to display these sites differently.

10. Templates for display any content or advertisements in specified categories.
IndexU should supports custom templates that you can be use to give any categories a different look & feel. It should also be used this to display any content or advertisements in specified categories.

11. The admin control panel
The admin control panel should have a built in crawler, to fetch titles, descriptions & keywords of URL's. You just feed the crawler with URL's and it supplies you with listings you can add to categories.

12. Templates
Templates should be cached to speed up page delivery times. You should be able to run your directory from generated HTML files or programmatically. Generated HTML pages will improve the performance of the time it takes to load pages and take up much less server resources than a programmatic directory.

Generate HTML pages (representing the directory) from the control panel, or from telnet/ssh. Also supports UNIX cron to generate HTML files on a scheduled basis.

13. Open Directory Importer – Plug-in

an easier open directory importer for. You specify where you would like links imported into your directory and supply a URL of the open directory where links should be fetched from.

The plug-in should provide a full tree display where you can choose where you would like links to be imported (select category, edit if need title/description & add to your database) and it should also of course check for duplicated urls.

More info when you click on [Detail] info for each Link/Url. Maybe an About me or our company details info. This is a god idea so that the descriptions don’t take so much room on the listing.
