Hello esm,
can't see anything at your site about the link check and other mods? Is it already online?

once again: Am I stupid? I've had a look at your new indexu help site at "MODs Archive" and it says that there aren't any hacks mean "0" in every category. Where can I have a look at your "duplicate links valitation"?Originally posted by esm

Hello,
Why would you want to check for duplicate link during validation when it is simpler and less work for the admin to keep users from posting duplicate link in the first place?
I have a hack which keep user from posting the same link more than X times in the directory and mre than Z times in a given category. It seam to be more efficient and less confusing for the user. Do not forget that when you validate a link an email is send to the poster, if you first accept a link and then reject the same link ( the duplicate one ) the poster will receive an email stating that the link has been validate and then an other one stating that the link has been rejected, it can be very confusing.
With my hack the user simply see a message saying that is link has already be posted more than X times in the directory or already exist in the chosen category.
ai,
do you have the mod online to test it ?
Greetings
Frank
actually, the answer is simple: some folks do not want to give up control of link addition to an automated process.Originally posted by aladdin
Hello,
Why would you want to check for duplicate link during validation.
It is not so much a question of whether one is better that the other as it is they are just different ways to accomplish basically the same thing.
but I do have a question: what is a duplicate link? are the listed below considered to be duplicates?
http://www.mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com/index.htm
http://www.mysite.com/
http://mysite.com
www.mysite.com
mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com/stuff
http://www.mysite.com/stuff/
http://mysite.com/stuff
http://mysite.com/stuff/
http://mysite.com/stuff/index.html
http://mysite.com/stuff/index.php
http://www.mysite.com/stuff/index.htm
http://www.mysite.com/stuff/index.htm
well, you get the picture.
which ones would your MOD automatically reject as duplicates??? and more importantly, would the webmaster reject the same submissions?
In the above example, the MOD I did would just find them all ( based on mysite.com ). Rather than me trying to write program code for all the different senarios, I just find them and let the admin decide.
but as I said, one is not inherently better than the other. They are just different. And I can certainly see where some sites could use automatic rejection.

Hello Ems,
I see your point.
