Default Error 500

Hello,

My websites work well for years with IndexU. But I recently saw lots of "error 500" messages.

So, I tried lots of things (in ".htaccess", trying to lower the charge of the server by removing search.php, using external data base, etc.) But nothing worked.

The web host (1&1) told me it's due to the script, but give no more details.

So, I searched on the web, and I believe I found a good track :

And more generally :
http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=...e+Google&meta=

Some people see "error 500" when the web host changes PHP4 to PHP5. Some "regular expressions" don't work well with PHP5.

I added "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php" in the ".htaccess" file, but nothing changed.

So, could you tell me if there are regular expressions or other things to modify to make the script PHP5 compliant ?

My (poor) websites are here (on the same host) :

http://www.nnuaire.com
http://www.coupe-de-cheveux.info

The "error 500" appears when there are lots of visitors (but sometimes like at random).
I added scripts for stats (Google Analytics, XiTi) in the footer. But I don't thinks it's the origin of the error 500 pages. For sure, i believe it's specific to my web host (1&1).

what is your version? In most case, command in .htaccess are not always supported by webhost.

Please copy/paste your .htaccess content here.

Remove the Options line from your .htaccess and add RewriteBase / to the .htaccess

Thanks for your answers...

IndexU was not the source of the "error 500" pages

My web host proposed web hosting with dedicated hosting "for beginners" (without Fedora nor Plesk), but he had no time to write a "basic guide" to modify some parameters (available RAM, maximum number of processes, soft resource limits, etc.). So, all the parameters were at the minimm value by default, but nobody explained that on the hot line.

By chance, I contacted somebody who explained the maximum and minimum values to give to theses parameters, and now my web sites are running very well (like in the past, when I was in a mutualized hosting).

Thanks again, IndexU is really a very good script
