Thread moved, this definately isn't a technical question.

Being in Canada you had better read and pay attention to the new privacy laws. Taxes you do not need to charge until you start making $30k per year from ALL income sources. If you have a job and you make 30k+ then it's time to call the tax people and have chat.

Copyright is copyright, don't violate the copyright laws and don't let users violate them on your sites or you're liable as well.

Lawyers always have something to say, and it's different for every single one. Try finding a lawyer that will give a free initial consultation so you can ask him how best to protect yourself.

Why would contact anyone in the US? You live in Canada. Unless you have an office in the US you would only need to collect tax from Canadians.

If they're in a different country and purchasing from a different country then you don't charge them tax. Talk to the tax people, they have books on who you charge.

That's what your lawyer is for, to answer all your questions. Otherwise you'd need to read the privacy law for yourself as I can't tell you everything that's in it.

Basically it says "don't tell anyone anything".
