Well now that I have the ability to make official decisions how about I set a date?
Original plans were for the End Of Life (EOL) for 5.4x to be around October 2008. I think an EOL of May 1 2009 would be plenty of time.
Given a vocal minority that was created when Nicecoder split v6 into Deluxe and v5.4, why not soften the blow and support v5.4 for two years until May 2010...?

May 1 2009 would be one year after Deluxe was released, which is the date I think we'll shoot for right now.
As for the October date, that was originally suggested by Dody, he wanted to terminate support for 5.4x 3 months after releasing Deluxe, I fought for more time than that in the first days after Deluxe, and now I've given even more time.
We can't support it forever, but how about we look at the possibility of an extension if users request it come next spring. I think there will be a minority of users using 5.4x at that time.
now that is funny. Like nickels, you can't even find two users here on the forum to rub together let alone find two that will "request it come next spring." And it is not because of the "summer doldrums."
Unless you are willing to substantially extend its life, you are wasting everyones' time, money effort by keeping it alive. If you plan on killing v5.4, do it now and quit *****footing around.
While I was opposed to the gimmick of splitting v6 into Deluxe and v5.4, there is actually a situation that v5.4 could be a very valuable asset for Nicecoder. But alas,

Indeed there are situations where earlier versions could be useful. I actually have an idea for 3.2 that we could impliment almost immediately. Of course we'd need to talk about it, but it opens up a large market.
