Any word on the plugin of the month for September? I think I had the only plugin submission last month (and this month so far, where are you ESM?).

I'm just waiting on the mass influx of returning summer vacationers before becoming active again.

It is no fun to put a lot of effort into something that only 3 or 4 folks will read and no will use.

If the INDEXU forum ever becomes active again then, maybe I'll return.

inspireme and myself pushed for years for a more active forum. We have both given up. I've seen nothing since inspireme left (after taking over support from me), to give me hope that the INDEXU forum will ever have more than an extremely small handful of active members.

One thing for sure is that the way the folks at NiceCoder have run the forums has not produced an active community. I recommend a change.

Instead you'd rather issue a challenge to see spam on the forum which would kill any forum faster than a new US president saying he wants to go back to Iraq and look for more WMD's.

As a note, a LOT more users are using the help desk. Even regular forum users are using it (the only name I can manage to pull out my brain at the moment is Mitchell).

3 or 4 people? There's 8 registered users on the forum right now, seven of those names I recognize as being actual users (and one of them is brand new). The forum has people on it all the time, no one is talking. And yes, forum activity has increased since the summer thank you, but still, they're not talking.

You might say you're here to "keep us honest", but all you're doing is being arguementive and saying everything we're doing is wrong. That can't be keeping people around here either.

Yikes, I feel like a presidential candidate on the short end of an attack ad.

As for being argumentative, I think other than an occasional post or two, I have never been the only member disagreeing in a post. Some have even been more vociferous than me in a post. I have hardly ever argued with another member (with the exception of Frank, which was before your time).

I've never stated or even hinted that my role is "keep us [NiceCoder] honest." I wouldn't take that role even if you paid me.

And I've never said "everything" about Nicecoder has been wrong. I have ALWAYS said that INDEXU is the best directory scrip available. But like others, I have said that support has not been good. But I complimented you for the work you have done in support area.

But like others, I have not always agreed with certain policies and procedures. And, I think if you go back and look, I even supported the annual license fee during the initial discussions. I just think it was poorly implemented.

As for forum activity I should have said 3 or 4 contributing members (and I do not include myself in that group since I don't often post). Nothing wrong with a help desk. I even have that option on my website.

But a help desk only minimally contributes to an active community. And can in fact inhibit an active community if folks have to turn to it to get the help they cannot get on the forum. And answers that a single user gets on the help desk are almost always never available to help other users.

As for the spam issue (which was really a side issue of that thread), I say there is none and you say there is about 10 or so every day. The only way to prove you are correct and that I am wrong is to let them thru for a day or so. You say that those 20 or so over two day would kill this forum. I say the members here can handle 20 or so spam posts for a day or two. And every member knows there is no spam or you would let them appear for a day or two just to prove me wrong.

You and I have proved that we can go on ad nauseum with our posts but this will be my last on this thread. Unlike the last one we had which I never did read you last post, I will at least peruse your post to this.

Yes a help desk can and does hurt a community. I'm seeing it already.

I did not say there is about 10 spams a day, I said up to 10, and on average it's 4-5 per day.

If you recall I didn't agree with how things were implimented either, but then at the time I was just a peon and my opinion only mattered a little. I got what I could for the users and I did my best, that was all I could do.

You still want to pollute the forum with spam. That's truly sad considering you say you want to see this become a better place. Feel free to allow your own site(s) to fill with spam, but it's not happening here.

But in the end I knew you would bring it up because you just seem to be the type of person that just can't let things go when you think you're right. So your friendly support guy did what anyone else would do that doesn't want to trash a site and piss off users with spam, he took screenshots just for kicks and kept them just for this special occasion when you asked yet again for "proof" because you knew that I wouldn't allow the spam.

You tried to play some game so that you could win and be smug with yourself that you were the hero of the forum. So for your enjoyment, here are three screenshots. One of them taken at 10:31AM on Sept 25 (1.jpg showing 3 spam posts) one taken at 11:33AM on Sept 28.12:02PM (2.jpg showing 6 spam posts) and the other at on Sept 25 (3.jpg showing 5 spam posts)

Yes the slaed post is spam, take a look at what forum it's posted in and if you could take a look at their full profile you'd see it was from an email address that doesn't go back to their own domain so they don't get blacklisted. It's also an english post going to a Russian language only site. It's useless to most users here unless they can read russian so there's only one purpose of the post, and that would be backlink/advertising.

Yes we can banter back and forth, but it's not going to happen any longer. I seriously tire of it and will simply say that it ends now. Feel free to make a reply and if you ask any questions I'll respond to them. After a day or so I'll split these posts off into their own thread because you took the thread off topic with your reply and it's only getting worse with each subsequent reply.

I decided to put the screenshots into their own posts just so users don't have to scroll sideways to see the images, I hate scrolling sideways.

    Default gibberrish ... maybee

Glad to see your back mpdaddy are you back for good?

    say yes ...

ESM I love it when you post, don’t leave us , im sorry I don’t reply to posts im just lazy or knackered from work either one of the two.

It sucks allot that inspireme isn’t that active either, but maybe he's busy with more interesting things.

I see indexu is moving in the right direction, new templates (and more hopefully), basic integration with the major CMS and forum scripts is defiantly a good step in the right direction.

Bruce is very efficient and punctual and has proved this over the last year, now he is part owner of nicecoder and pushing through ideas from the community easier and its showing. I also like the liberal attitude here .
Many times brucekeeper has opened threads for feedback / ideas on the way forward of the indexu script, maybe its time for another one of those threads so some of the main contributors ESM Inspireme can convey what makes them unhappy (if they are?). From a fly on the walls perspective I feel ESM / Inspireme should be hired or given some position here at nicecoder.

The point im making is why are people unhappy when there’s really nothing to be unhappy about? Is it the contribution and no credit / reward, whatever it is it will really suck without ESM, Inspireme, and I mean really.

Also you have to remember I am crap at conveying my ideas and as always it can be misunderstood inn writing.

I am back for now. I am not sure yet whether it is permanent or temporary. Everyone knows I was unhappy about how they implimented the fees for the new version and to a certain extent, it still bothers me. I have been lurking in the forums all Summer and I have seen some positive change, that is the main reason I am back.

I am still working on a major project of mine which I decided to do all by myself. Some of you know what that is.. If I ever get it finished, I will most likely leave again, but hopefully the terms will be better next time.

    Regards
    Wayne

I've been waiting for a reply from esm, it appears that none is coming.

Hiring someone from the forum is a possibility, but the issue here is that we already have six programmers. Granted they do not all work on IndexU at once and one of them is dedicated to iDesk/win32 apps.

Matt (inspireme) messaged me some time ago and has moved on in business. At one point he asked if I would take over on indexu.co.uk and we spoke briefly and he never responded to my last message. His site is now offline, I have no idea if it will be back.

esm has apparently stopped posting but is still visiting the forum. Having been here (the forum) approximately three hours ago. I will assume he saw my replies about the spam and chose not to reply because he saw he was wrong.

Users have asked for many things over the last few months, and I've delivered on a lot of them. Many others are in the planning stages and will be happening.

So what else can I do? You want a busier forum but if no one chooses to post then there's not much I can do about it. Here's what I've been doing to help in this regard.

You want "action" and I've provided it. I was up until 4AM last night fixing and setting up the affiliate program, yet another step to help increase user satisfaction and throw some money your way.

While the project tools are new they offer an unparralelled way to track bugs and feature suggestions.

Changes to the website to improve traffic have been done all month long and include meta tags, sitemaps, SEO and more.

The mailing lists have all been set up now and include seven email lists that users can sign up to ranging from a general list to updates and security notifications.

Got any other suggestions? Start a new thread and talk to me, give me your ideas and I'll see what I can do.
