    Default Post clarification

Perhaps I'm missing something, Bruce just said in the other forum:

"And you can receive free lifetime upgrades of 5.4. But if you want 6.x you need to agree to the new license."
    http://www.nicecoder.com/community/s...?t=6681&page=4

What is happening with 5.4? Is it to be separated out and developed in the future?

A template has nothing to do with "updates".

And your post has nothing to do with this thread. Why is it here?

I guess I was "missing something." In any event, you never did respond in the original forum.

Where? Did I miss something? Does it belong in this thread?

If not I'll split it off into it's own thread so we don't break up the original posters thread.

It has to do with the future of 5.4, as you laid out in the link above:
"And you can receive free lifetime upgrades of 5.4. But if you want 6.x you need to agree to the new license."

What is meant by a lifetime of upgrades to 5.4? Are you saying that there's now going to be two parallel, supported scripts being developed? There hasn't been a supported, official update/upgrade of 5.4 since it was released a full year ago.

Feel free to split. And thanks in advance for clarification.

What I meant is exactly that, you can receive lifetime upgrades of 5.4. But don't count on many upgrades to 5.4. Essentially it would be security updates and possibly bugfixes.

There has been a large amount of bugfixes. And I'm sure Dody has a version kicking around with the newest bugfixes before v6 was started. Perhaps that could be sent out as 5.41? I don't know, it's just an idea.

I was being somewhat sarcastic when I said that. Essentially 5.4 is now going to go undeveloped. There will not be two concurrent versions that are ACTIVELY updated.

I am not putting words in his mouth or speaking for Bruce in any way. But, what he is saying is that IndexU is not going to offer updates for 5.4. So in essence, those of us who expect them to give us free lifetime updates as they promised are going to get nothing. Dody says it will all get sorted out. The only way to sort it out in my opinion would be to honor their commitment to current customers. 6.0 is the update to 5.4, but you need to agree to pay them yearly for updates and support in order to use it. I will not use it or even download it until this is a ll sorted out.

Dody is looking into releasing a v5.41 which will include the bugfixes for 5.4 up to the point where development for v6 started. No one is promising anything, but he will look into it.

I would say for people not interested in this new ongoing license fee paradigm, and who have been patiently waiting for a stable, supported version of 5.4 (a version that has had an enormous amount of sorting done to it, including bug fixes), this would be a BARE minimum.

After this thread everything is clear for me about the future of any 5.4x version.

Thx CEC and Bruce for clarification

Edit: Could you leave, please, templates for 5.4 in download section in Client's area ?

I'll talk to Dody about that, but they were removed so that customer do not think they are v6 compatible.
