Default Ok. So it look grrrrrrreat!! Where do I start?

I'm off to view the user guide but I love to just hack my way in and play. Any tips on the best mods to do first?

(And I just found this little gem Indexu Guide: Real Case: Building General Web Directory (indexu.net))

Ok so I'm really greatful I've imported some categories but I don't want to buy a template. I want to have ago myself. http://www.nicecoder.com/community/templates/ doesn't inspire me. So next I go where???

Back to help ....Indexu Guide: Getting Started with INDEXU

    Indexu Guide: Understanding Template... hmm??

    Smarty : Template Engine ......hmm??

Indexu Guide: How to Include Static Pages (No. But saving my template again now prob a good idea)

not here either Indexu Guide: HowToChangeDefaultNumberListingperPage.

How to use blocks contains some nice screenshots to help me a little.

Hmmm where next ???? Guess time to go tinker with the unknown...

Control Panel indicates I need to export my template and modify it. So perhaps I export the template from my control panel and go elsewhere to modify it....

A job for tomoz... Time for bed

    Default hmmm.

Ok went back to home http://www.nicecoder.com/indexu_templates.php page sorry but that didn't help. (Think you need to update it also). It just told me I could buy or use your templates.

This showed me what I already have http://www.nicecoder.com/demo.php as an exisiting customer. (Brought 1 user yesterday.)

Think I'm going to the code next.....

Guess I'm looking for some tips on which module to go change my logo and your text etc... A quick road map. Had a look at smarty late last night but not in depth. So I'll go visit there and then work my way through code.

I will go and check the additional free templates as one might give me a better starting point

    Thanks for that tip.

    Fiona

Btw. I do like what I've seen so far. Great stuff

OK ... So I've logged into the user area and gone to my purchase and grabbed the template files. I think I was being dim but I couldn't work out how to use the import function. So I ftp them to the themes directory which worked fine once I ditched the template folder and chmod the files. Not my brightest of nights until I saw the themes. Well all I can say is Wow. Love them. Certainly allows me to get a site up quick.

Sadly I then found I couldn't drill down through the directory. Thankfully nothings been too difficult so far and I'm confident I'm going to find the answer to this problem quickly. So off I go...

Back again. Problem solved. I ran the update scripts on the control panel. So now I have 0 as expected in all my categories and I can drill down.

hmm now what.... (don't follow my next steps read on a little)

Off to work out smarty. This guide looks like one a mum can understand Smarty for Beginners and may be this page Smarty Installation Windows - SmartyWiki

ok this is where a mum with no unix skills may get stuck. The file is zipped up for unix. Ney mind I have it now in a winzip format..

Oh gee I don't think I need to mess with smarty stuff and neither does the hubby. I can do the changes I need through the app or in dreamweaver. grrrrrr Hey ho.

Ok I'm working on template bluesmooth. I liked one of the others more but felt this would be easier design for users. (Thats open to debate of course. ) I'm not planning on doing anything to fancy just change look and feel a little by adding logos, modifying text etc. Lets see how it goes.
For now I need to leave dreamweaver copying files and go to bed.

Have been back and started changing the images in directory under my chosen theme. The two logo files logo.gif and logo2.gif also banner.jpg.

    Will be back later

    Over a day later back

    Changed text in block.tell_friend.html , index.html, footer.html, custom_page_template, add_error.html.

Now still looking like template but starting to get feel of what it will be...

Need to change that welcome to indexu ....
