    Default Just a suggestion for SVN area

    I have noticed in most cases when a programmer adds a new modification to the script (in the SVN area) the new mod has bugs and I mean obvious bugs, don’t they test it before they upload it? I think they should test it on a live site and make sure at least every aspect of the new mod works then upload it.

    Here is the latest one I just noticed;
    ([893] 10/27/08 00:26:24 EST) Sitemap Bug,
    After uploading the new fix when we lunch sitemap it generate and submit to search engines 5 times, which most probably you may get penalize by search engines for multiple submissions it in a very short time.

    Of course they're tested, you can't see from the browser that it would be submitted multiple times so everything looked normal.

    I am talking in the admin area, you will see the multiple time in the admin when you press Sitemap Generator in the admin.

    In the admin area I've only ever seen the single page where it lists the sites that the sitemap has been submitted to.

    Do you have a screenshot to better explain what you're talking about?

    If it was successful you would see that it is submitting different files each time it pings the server. One ping for each sitemap file.

    I got Budi to make a new output for the sitemap that puts them all together so it's less confusing.

    Get the latest SVN version and upload the /admin/ and /admin_tpl/ directories and run it again.

    Default Sitemap error

    Hi Bruce,

    After updatingthe new SVN this is the error message that I get in Google Webmasters Tool;

    Parsing error
    We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting

    You have an invalid entry in your database. You need to find it and repair it.

    This is typically caused by the & being submitted in a listing. Do a search and replace and replace all & with &

    After that you may end up with some entries that have & do another search and replace and replace all & with &

    Hi Bruce,

    No, it is not my database, as when I submit the sitemap using the old sitemap generator is fine but as soon as I update my sitemap.php files from the latest SVN and I generate the sitemap, I get the Google Sitemap error message.

    There has to be some thing to do with the new SVNs.

    This is the new generated "sitemap_index.xml";
    Is this correct?

    I am almost sure that the new sitemap generator has a bug, I have tried it a few times and when I use the new SVN files I am getting sitemap error (in Google Webmasters Tool area).

    I get this error message
    Parsing error
    We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting
    But if I upload the older files and generate sitemap it works perfectly and the Google error goes away, by the way I made sure that there is no issue with & in my database.

    Perhaps you have to try it and then check it with Google webmasters tool to see if ay one else has the same problem!

    Looking over the files I dont see any visable error(s). I'll get narkuso to look into it.

    Note that since we've started using the project tools that is the only place we will accept bugs from now on. This allows both you and us to track them and discuss them.

    I just went back and checked, and I was incorrect on what files get submitted to Google for the sitemap.

    This whole sitemap changing has messed me up a little. The files that are submitted to google are

    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/sitemap1/urllist.txt has been submitted.
    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/urltxt0/urllist.txt has been submitted.
    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/urltxt1/urllist.txt has been submitted.
    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/urltxt2/urllist.txt has been submitted.
    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/urltxt3/urllist.txt has been submitted.
    Sitemap file : http://www.indexu.com/sitemap/urltxt4/urllist.txt has been submitted.

    I'll get Nakos to explain the changes in a blog posting tonight for all of us.

    Colour me wrong yet again, it seems there's an issue there too.

    I think someone's going to get yelled at tonight.
