Default Indexu 7.2 vs Deluxe and previous versions

I'm split as to whether to continue using the deluxe edition or 7.2 -

It feels as Indexu has been stripped of it's original beauty, so many features gone that I am not very eager to start using V7 - maybe I am just being old fashioned.

Things like Fetch Meta Tags, Search Log, Multiple Categories (per link), Smarty Template System (makes life easier to those who are not web savy), Dmoz Extracting links etc have all gone - are these features that are likely to return or are they now things of the past?

Can anybody tell me why I should be using 7.2?

Also, legacy versions, will they still be supported Dody?

    Thanks

Since indexu 7 is really new script, it will take time to convert all features from 5.x. We will bring back those features back in future release (no smarty, sorry).

Can anybody tell me why I should be using 7.2?
There are some reasons that force us to rewrite the script:
    - indexu 5.x and deluxe has so many template files (over 100 html files)
    - smarty cause problem with caching and in some cases make harder to make modification, while using php as template give a lot of flexibility
    - we need to enhance the custom fields .. you will see now that indexu 7 has the most powerful custom fields management (many field types, error handling, arrange the order, etc)
    - faster engine, we tested indexu 7 with two million links without any problems. (Some users reported that indexu 7 is slower, we will investigate it)

Unfortunately, we can't fix them without rewrite the script since it is the core of the system.

There is documentation how to translate:
    http://www.nicecoder.com/resources/i...ranslation.pdf

Do not use tool like poedit, but a plain text editor like notepad. I use sublimetext.

I think maybe it is best to wait for some of these features to be re-introduced - specially the multiple links per category - otherwise updating/editing listing will be a pain.

    Thanks

Did not work for me, when I place text in arabic.po then upload it, I only get English, Arabic disappears totally.
I will check sublime text and see

No luck, as if the Arabic file is missing, but if I delete Arabic, I get this header error:

Warning: file(/home/daleel/public_html/language/arabic.po) [function.file]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/daleel/public_html/lib/po_reader/po_reader.php on line 31

Indexu 7 also has banner management with simple email reminder before banner expire.

Another important feature is custom fields can be for featured listing only. Notice that indexu 7 can show different add form for basic and featured listing.

To those that have upgraded to V7 all I have to say is "GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN" you will need to go through all the shit all over from the start AGAIN! I do agreed on the point of smarty causing problem but that is less painful to deal with than going all over from the start again. Building a good and professional site is not easy and there are people here that have really put their heart and soul in building their site and so on....... Suddenly another V7 was launched and expect people to start solving shit all over again from the start is something I think it is totally crazy. Personally I suggestion to those that are still using V5 or Deluxe, KEEP AWAY from upgrading until everything is been stabilized, let the newbies that have just started using indexu go through all the shit and allow the script to get more stabilized before upgrading

Totally feel and share your disappointment.

My big questions is - Will Deluxe still be supported?

@linksor, it is a wise decision not to upgrade if you already satisfied with the current version you use. Even more if you have modified version, it would be hard to upgrade. I know successful directory sites like mxwebsites, vacationrental.org, vrwd.com, and many others keep using indexu 5.x. And they are doing great.

If you want to start new directory, indexu 7 is the best option.

@berto, indexu deluxe no longer developed, no more features will be added. However we keep maintain for bug fixes.

My 2 cents Dody.. upload both the Deluxe and the new version 7.

I will stick with the Deluxe 2.4. Easier to edit and create unique sites.. the V7 takes all that away. You guys really went the wrong way with version 7, I think you would have been better off with 2.7 and asking your "CUSTOMERS" what they wanted.

So my vote is for your Deluxe script, Version 7 is useless to me..

I guess you are going to get into the Templates and Theme business.. Official indexu template club | indexutemplates.com & IndexuThemes.com : Indexu Themes, Indexu Templates, Indexu Plugins - The Latest Default News and Information ??

And here are my two cents (this makes 4 Cents now).

I am a User of Indexu since years and I was totally happy with it, until the big change to V7. I changed back to my older 2.4 Version that is way better to handle.
I have followed Dody on Twitter and on his website dodyrw.com | { Coding } [[ experience ]] for some time and I think Dody is doing way tooooooo many things at one time. On Codecanyon Dody has developed a good script for IPhone and Wordpress that he is supporting. But I feel a bit loneley here on nicecoder.com, cause I think Dody does not have the time to manage Support here, does not answer tickets anymore. So Dody, see this as an open letter to you:
Are you going to shut down nicecoder and the Indexu Project or are you still going to support us Indexu Users ? That is the big Question to me here.
I would be happy if Dody could give us all some Comments on this, so that we all know what will be going on.

I think he has the right to explore new income sources, but I think starting a new product, charging for it, and then forgetting about it and its users is unprofessional.
Deluxe was a good product and was supported well, thats why I upgraded to 7, and paid for extra mods, thinking that I will get the same slow, but acceptable support, to find out that this is not the case.
I could find excuses for Dody, life is tough, but when I check his tweets, I feel bad as a client.
